No grad school & we’re moving!

I was accepted into University of Washington and Indiana University at Bloomington, but I didn’t get any funding.  Both places said funding would be a possibility for the next year, but I am not willing to take a chance (or lay out the kind of cash it would require for even that first year).

On Sunday, we rented a house.  It happened kind of by accident - we weren’t looking to move in the next several months.  But this cute little dollhouse has been completely remodeled and I fell in love with it.  It is three bedrooms with one bathroom (and a small one, unfortunately).  It has new carpet, new plumbing fixtures, new heat & AC, new hot water heater, two car garage with a garage door opener, new dishwasher.  The cabinets and countertops have just been installed and he is putting in a refrigerator, stove and washer and dryer.  I am amazed - I have never heard of a rental house coming with a fridge, washer, & dryer.  We also have a small storage shed in the backyard and several trees on the property.  There is an alarm system.

I am not crazy (okay, I’m really really nervous) about the area it is in.  It is an older part of town and is heavily Hispanic, which is a big change for be - I grew up in white suburbia.  I haven’t seen any gang tags or anything, so I don’t think it will be dangerous just different from what I am used to.  We also have an older couple living behind us (they actually went to school with my grandfather) and are admitted “nosey neighbors,” which is just fine with us.

We start moving in on May 11th.  I can’t wait to get out of our apartment!
