{at the bar} In which Sam takes some time to listen.

Sep 27, 2010 22:45

Lexie: [it's been a longer day than she's needed, and after a breakdown in front of her sister, she really doesn't want to go home yet, so she finds herself in that bar she went to once. Of course she'd already stopped at Joe's for a couple of shots, so she's already gotten the night started. and anyone in there might recognize her, but would have to notice she has since died her hair blonde]

Sam: [is sitting at the bar, having a beer. he wasn't really there to drink, but he'd just gotten off work and was looking to relax for a bit. He does a double take when she comes in, though, his head tipping as he tries to figure out if that's who he thinks it is] Lexie?

Lexie: [doesn't even really hear him, because she's focused on getting to the bar and sitting. her knees haven't exactly been steady today, and she speaks to the bartender] I want...vodka. Vodka mixed with vodka. And...cranberry juice.

Sam: [and hearing that doesn't exactly make him feel better. He moves one stool over so that he's sitting next to her, and places a hand on her arm gently] Lexie?

Lexie: [looks over at him and her sad Lexie eyes are all...sad and Lexie. She squints, before attempting a smile] Sam.

Sam: [seeing her sad makes him sad, and he can't help but ask] Are you okay?

Lexie: [takes her drink and pushes the straw aside to take a large gulp, nodding] Great, I'm great. How are you?

Sam: I'm ... good. Just got off work.

Lexie: [nods as she gulps her drink some more]

Sam: [watches her as he takes a sip of his beer] Are you sure you're okay? Because you don't really seem ... okay.

Lexie: [stops and pauses to just look at him. concern, that's sweet. She frowns and looks into her glass then up at him] People...are complicated.

Sam: [nods a bit] Yes, they are.

Lexie: [frowns, looking down again] My ex...he's...he's over me. [shrugs]

Sam: [there's a sympathetic look here, before reaching over to place his hand over hers] I'm sorry.

Lexie: [doesn't acknowledge the touch just yet] I'm the one that ended things...I'm the one that started sleeping with someone else first...he should move on.

Sam: Just because you ended things doesn't mean you're over it too. Even if you're sleeping with someone else.

Lexie: [her hands turns in his to grip onto it as she looks at him] I just want to be able to breathe again.

Sam: [squeezes her hand back] You will. It'll just take a little time.

Lexie: [shakes her head] I sound ridiculous. I'm going on about...I'm sorry.

Sam: No, hey, it's okay. Sometimes people need to talk about things.

Lexie: [a weak, but grateful smile] Why are you always so sweet to me?

Sam: [shrugs] It's better than being a dick?

Lexie: [squeezes his hand] It is. And trust me. I know dicks. [will sip her drink before she realizes how that sounded, then have a spit take. Sorry Sam.]

Sam: [tries to cover a smirk] I know how you meant it.

Lexie: I think I need another drink.

Sam: [goes to signal the bartender]

Lexie: [drops her chin in her hand and waits]

Sam: [bartender pours her another drink and gets him another beer] Thanks.

Lexie: [drinks her drink slower this time and tilts her head to him] What've you been up to?

Sam: [shrugs] Work, mostly. Nothing too interesting.

Lexie: [nose crinkles as she tries to remember] What do you do?

Sam: Right now? Construction.

Lexie: [will raise a brow a bit at that, because...mmm pretty picture] That sounds nice.

Sam: [shrugs] It pays the bills.

Lexie: It doesn't make you happy?

Sam: [a pause as he takes another swallow of the beer] Happy isn't really in the cards for me right now. I kind of ... screwed up big time, so ... I'm just trying to get back to even keel again.

Lexie: Does punishing yourself help? [asked quite brashly as she sips her drink]

Sam: [considers that for a moment] A little bit. I ... seriously fucked up.

Lexie: [nods] Well. Maybe we should become alcoholics together. Drown our woes and be miserable. Miserable old drunks who end up needing to ask their daughters for a liver to replace the ones we killed. Just like my dad.

Sam: [watches her for a moment, before shrugging] Or maybe we can try and do better.

Lexie: [watches him back and nods, she was being facsitious anyway...mostly..] Maybe we can.

Sam: [picks up his beer and holds it towards her] To doing better?

Lexie: [clinks her glass to his bottle and gives him a small smile] Doing better. And no more sad Sam eyes. I don't like those.

Sam: [smiles back] Same for you.

Lexie: But I don't have sad Sam eyes.

Sam: You have sad Lexie eyes.

Lexie: [leans close to him and pointedly closes her eyes to argue that point. yeah...she may be a little drunk]

Sam: [smirks a bit, before moving his hand and brushing her hair away from her face] Closing your eyes doesn't make them go away.

Lexie: [sighs a bit at the touch before opening her eyes and looking at him] So what does?

Sam: I'm not sure I can tell you. You gotta figure it out on your own.

Lexie: Have you found anything that helps?

Sam: [shrugs as he thinks it over] Just doing something that keeps makes me feel like I'm making a difference.

Lexie: [nods] Work helps. My work I mean.

Sam: [nods] You're a doctor, right?

Lexie: I am. I mean..I'm not the rockstar or the super-surgeon or the child royalty of Seattle Grace, but...I still do okay.

Sam: I think rockstars are overrated.

Lexie: Not where I work.

Sam: All the surgeons are rockstars?

Lexie: Most of them.

Sam: That's ... above average.

Lexie: Well there's a reason our hospital is one of the top hospitals in the country.

Sam: I didn't know that.

Lexie: [shrugs, and she isn't going to clear up that she didn't mean literal rockstars, incase he was confused]

Sam: [he wasn't confused, he just doesn't pay attention to hospital stats] Are you happy there, even with the rockstars?

Lexie: [thinks about it, then nods] It let me get to know my sister.

Sam: You two weren't close before?

Lexie: [thinks, thinks..sighs] She's...my half sister. Our dad abandoned her and her mom and so...well. [shrug] We didn't know each other until I started working at the hospital.

Sam: Oh. Huh. [a beat] But you guys are good now?

Lexie: [thinks a bit and nods] We're working on it. We're a lot better than we were.

Sam: [nods] That's good, then.

Lexie: It is.

Sam: I have a brother.

Lexie: Are you two close?

Sam: [a bit of a laugh] Yeah, or ... at least we used to be. He practically raised me.

Lexie: Really? Did you two..have a falling out?

Sam: [hesitates] It's kind of hard to explain, but he's one of the people I managed to fuck over. It was more than just the situation I got myself in ... I really hurt him.

Lexie: I'm sure he still loves you. You can't...stop loving family. No matter how rotten they are.

Sam: Him loving me wasn't the question. It's him trusting me that's the problem. [pauses as he looks back at his beer] I don't even trust myself right now, how should I expect him to.

Lexie: Trust is hard to earn back, but...it's not impossible. You just have to work for it.

Sam: I know. I just have to figure out how.

Lexie: [rests her head in her hand, the alcohol making her a little sleepy, but her eyes still on him] It'll happen.

Sam: [small smile at that, before moving his hand to brush her hair away from her face again] Maybe we should get you home.

Lexie: [leans into the touch for a moment before shaking her head] I...there are just people at home that I don't feel like I can...I'm not ready to go home.

Sam: [licks his lips for a second as he thinks, before tipping his head towards the door] Let's get you a little bit of air then. Just so you don't pass out.

Lexie: [smirks] I'm not going to pass out.

Sam: [smirks back] Well, you're either gonna pass out or fall asleep. [stands up and puts some money on the bar for his tab, before holding a hand out to her] C'mon. Let's just go for a walk.

Lexie: Ohhhkay. [lets him help her up]

Sam: [smiles a bit as he starts to lead her out the door]

Lexie: [goes with]

Sam: [opens the door for her as he leads them towards the sidewalk]

Lexie: [may be leaning against him after a bit]

Sam: [will slide an arm around her shoulders to support her]

Lexie: [after walking quietly for awhile she'll look up at him] You're comfy.

Sam: [a bit of a laugh as he looks back] Thanks.

Lexie: [grins]

Sam: [sighs as he keeps walking] You know, I'm starting to get used to this place.

Lexie: Seattle?

Sam: Yeah. I've never stayed here this long.

Lexie: [smiles] Well I'm glad you chose Seattle.

Sam: [smiles back] Me too.

Lexie: [realizes she's looking at his smile too long and looks to her feet awkwardly]

Sam: [head tips a bit at that] Something wrong?

Lexie: [shakes her head, not looking up] No..I mean...I am, but...that's nothing new.

Sam: [tips her chin up] You're not wrong. Not from what I can see.

Lexie: [blinks up at him] You haven't seen everything.

Sam: No, but I've seen a lot of things that really are wrong. [brushes his thumb against her jawline] You're not even close.

Lexie: [closes her eyes and sighs]

Sam: [leans in on impulse and presses a kiss to her forehead]

Lexie: [leans in to it]

Sam: [pulls back after a minute, before glancing around] We should probably head back before we go too far.

Lexie: [nods] Probably.

Sam: [starts to steer them back towards the bar]

Lexie: [goes with]

Sam: [opens the door for her when they get back to the bar] Unless you're ready to go home.

Lexie: [looks at the door, then over her shoulder and sighs] Not really, but I probably shouldn't go back in here.

Sam: [guides her out] C'mon. I'll drive.

Lexie: [lets him lead]

Sam: Did you drive here?

Lexie: No. Took a cab.

Sam: [nods] I'll drive.

Lexie: Okay.

Sam: [leads her back to his car, and opens the door for her]

Lexie: [slides in and buckles her seatbelt]

Sam: [starts the car] Where do you live?

Lexie: [tells him the address] Do you know where it is?

Sam: [nods] I know where the street is.

Lexie: Okay. [sits back]

Sam: [drives, heading towards the street]

Lexie: [watches out the window]

Sam: [slows when he gets to her street, leaning forward to look for the number]

Lexie: [points out the large house that she lives in]

Sam: [pulls into the driveway to let her out]

Lexie: [looks over at him] Thank you, Sam.

Sam: [shrugs] Anytime.

Lexie: You could come in if you want. I mean, not...not like that, just...if you want to...come in.

Sam: [glances over] I could. If you don't think I'd be in the way.

Lexie: [laughs] As many people live in there and come and go...I doubt anyone would notice.

Sam: I dunno -- I'm kinda noticable.

Lexie: Trust me. It'll be okay. [climbs out of the car]

Sam: [nods and climbs out of the car, following Lexie towards the door]

Lexie: [lets them in and glances around, pulling him towards the stairs] Okay, well you won't be noticed if you don't hang out down here. I've got a TV in my room, and I promise not to take advantage of you.

Sam: [smirks] Sounds good.

Lexie: [leads him up to her room, luckily not catching anyone in the hall, and shuts them in] Do you want anything to eat or drink?

Sam: [shakes his head] I'm good.

Lexie: Okay. [locks the door and goes to pull the sheets up on her bed a bit to make the room a little more presentable] Have a seat.

Sam: [goes to sit, not sure where to sit, exactly, and settles on sitting on the edge of her bed]

Lexie: [sits beside him and turns on the TV] Let me know if you see something you like.

Sam: [nods as she flips through]

Lexie: [just scans through, nothing catching her attention, because she's really not focused on watching TV anyway]

Sam: [he doesn't really watch much TV anyway, and tells her to stop on a random sitcom]

Lexie: [stops and leaves it there, moving to lean back against her pillows slightly]

Sam: [doesn't lean back quite yet, because he feels a little weird making himself comfortable in her bedroom, but he stays close]

Lexie: [it isn't long before her eyes are getting heavy and she keeps closing them for awhile and opening them quickly]

Sam: [glances back at her as she does this and smiles slightly]

Lexie: [doesn't notice him, just tries to stay awake]

Sam: [moves over and brushes a hand against her face] You should sleep. And I should go.

Lexie: [opens her eyes to look up at him and wraps her hand around his wrist] Or I should sleep and you should stay.

Sam: [hesitates] Lexie ...

Lexie: [scoots back and spreads out] Don't you sleep better with a warm body beside you?

Sam: [still unsure] We don't really know each other that well.

Lexie: [just looks up at him, waiting]

Sam: [is quiet for a moment] Do you really want me to stay?

Lexie: Not if you don't want to.

Sam: [he did, so he'll start to shed some of the layers, just enough so that he's comfortable to sleep, before sliding onto the bed next to her] Don't smack me in the morning. [teasing. mostly]

Lexie: [smirks and curls up against him. One of those happy she won smiles on her face] As long as your hand isn't where it shouldn't be there will be no smacking.

Sam: [laughs] I will keep that in mind.

Lexie: [grins] Goodnight Sam.

Sam: Night, Lexie.

Lexie: [closes her eyes again and drifts off before long]

Sam: [is up for a little while longer, but eventually he drifts off himself]

Lexie: [and will sleep comfortably through the night, then wake up to find herself snuggled up close to him]

Sam: [will wake up when he feels her move blinking over at her] Morning.

Lexie: Morning.

Sam: How'd you sleep?

Lexie: Good. You?

Sam: [nods] Pretty good.

Lexie: [grins] Good.

Sam: [glances down at his watch] I gotta get to work.

Lexie: [nods] Me too.

Sam: [sits up and starts to pull his clothes back on, before glancing back at her] This was nice.

Lexie: Thanks for the company.

Sam: Same here.

Lexie: Wait. [sits up and grabs a pen and scrap paper to jot her number down] Here. [hands it to him]

Sam: [takes it from her and looks at it] I take it you want to do this again sometime?

Lexie: [shrugs] Or if you just wanna talk.

Sam: [nods] Okay.

Lexie: [small smile]

Sam: [smiles back] I'll call you.

Lexie: Okay.

Sam: [gets up and heads toward the door] Bye, Lexie.

Lexie: Wait. [hops to her feet]

Sam: [waits]

Lexie: [goes over in one leap to catch him by the door and kiss him, because...she wants to.]

Sam: [is surprised, but kisses her back, one hand coming up to cup her face]

Lexie: [leans into him for a bit, but then pulls back with a smile]

Sam: [smiles back] Okay, I really need to go.

Lexie: Go then. [smirk]

Sam: [smirks and leaves, heading to work]

Lexie: [goes to get ready for work]
