I needed a new headset for my computer, recently. The ravages of time and children had done their fatal work on my old pair, and so it was off to CompUSA for me.

Casting my weary and jaded eyes across the row of headsets, my blurry vision lit upon a most curious artifact...

The Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset

I looked at in bemusement, and gradually, with desire... perhaps... this was the answer. The answer to the parade of flimsy headsets that had so plagued me in the past. So I would look like Princess Leia. Who cared as long as I had a set of phones that lasted longer than three months? And for $30?

Ooh, volume control...

I plunked down my plastic and scurried home with it.

Setup, of course, was simplicity itself. It's a pair of headphones, for heaven's sake. I fit them on my ears...

And smiled. It's as if they belonged there. They rested comfortably on my head, supported lightly by my ears. The open design felt airy and distributed. I had been afraid that my glasses would have interfered with the earpieces... but my fears were quickly allayed.

I quickly fired up my usual test audio piece, "Rootbeer Rag" by Billy Joel. Tonal reproduction was quite good. It was a tad bit muddy on the very high end, but I found bass to be reasonably full. Good for headphones, and exactly how you would expect a model touted as a gaming headset to sound.

The volume control was really the only actual annoyance. It's a thin, smooth ring, flush with the base, with only a raised little dot to give a fingertip some purchase. Not exceedingly easy to get a grasp on, especially if you've been diving into the chips. Fortunately, it turned fairly easily.

So, I fired up Battlefield 1942... and I actually laughed.

$30 well spent. I haven't tried the microphone yet. I don't use Teamspeak or such, much... but if the quality of the mic is anything like the quality of the headset itself, it will be very, very good.

Lightsider awards the Logitech Precision PC Gaming headset a well deserved 9 out of 10. ^_^ Good sound, comfortable design, and the only real annoyance is the volume control. Otherwise, worth your hard earned jack. ^_^
