Lest people think I sit around the computer all day... uh... well, you're right. ^_^ But I do get out occasionally. Took the family to a skating rink yesterday. A pretty cool one, too. A free skate area, a track of sorts, skate park for the skilled, laser tag, and a dime arcade. ^_^ Laser tag was fun. Skating's not really my thing... but in the arcade, there was one of those dance machines.
I eyed it warily. It was called "Pump it up." I'd suffered humiliations on such devices before. Once in Las Vegas, in fact. Where a techno version of Mozart kicked my ass.
But, seeing as how I'd only have to pay twenty cents to be humiliated again, why not? ^_^
This time, there was a crucial difference, though. I finally, finally noticed that each song had a level rating. The aformentioned Mozart? Something like level 6 or 7. Death!
I wisely chose a level 1 song, and stumbled my way through to a "successful" ending. If a "D" rating could be called that. However, it let me try another song.
And about halfway through, it all clicked. The heavens opened. My feet found the pads as if they belonged there.
I got the groove.
Well, to an extent, anyway. I proceeded over the next hour or so to get to level 3, where I found some decent challenge. But, by the time I left, I was getting "A" ratings on that too. Not bad for a first day, I'd say.
And even better, there will be a home version out in the near future. For the XBox. And... I think I might buy an XBox just for that. ^_^ Hey, exercise, right?
From what I've seen, this particular incarnation of the dance game is more like... dancing, than DDR. The pads aren't in a plus (+) shape. Their in an X shape, with a button in the middle, for a total of 5. When I was in the zone, it felt like dancing.
I've seen my destiny. And it's techno. ^_^
