Her head was pounding like someone was hitting it with a giant mallet and her eyes and mouth felt like they were filled with sand. All and all, she felt a lot better than she would have thought she would.
Pushing up so she could sit back against the wall, she blinked, trying to focus on the child. "Uhmmm, hi." She paused, frowning as she tried to remember. "Jenny?"
Jenny nods. Her hair is pulled up into a pair of pigtails that bob when she moves.
"And you're Sam who is going to live with us, but not in my room all the time." She puts down her lego construction carefully and stands up, walking over to the bed. "You look blurry like Dad and Nik."
Sam laughed, looking around the room. "Sorry about that. I was kind of... messed up when Apollo brought me home. Wait, what do you mean by blurry,' she asked, canting her head. "And who's Nik?"
"Blurry. You got red eyes and your eyes are glassy and you smell like Russian stinky water." She walked up close to squint at Sam. "Nik is my new uncle who looks like Dad. He and John brought Dad home when he was sick and then John left, and now John's here which means Lisa is moving in!"
She starts dancing on the spot. Yeah, Jenny's an interesting child.
Sam sits up a little bit more, wincing. "Yeah, I'm blurry. I was stupid. Don't you ever be stupid, kid, okay?" Smiling at the dancing though, definitely missing the kids at Marie's much more than she would ever miss Marie.
"Looks like Apollo? Ohhhh, he mentioned him. Uhhhh, Winter?" How Winter became Nik was anyone's guess. Unless the Carrier was full of hot guys that looked like Apollo.
"Yeah, Winter. But I call him Uncle Nik. Call Nik'las is too long and Winter's not a real name and Jenny S called him Kamarov in her head but I'm not her."
She stops dancing and cocks her head. "I'm smart, even though I don't have a computer in my brain."
Sam just sort of stares at Jenny for a long time. This was going to take not only getting used to but catching up as well. "How do you know what that Jenny things in her mind and what is Winter's real name?'
Sam sighed though, a tone so longing and needy. "I wish I had a computer in my brain. I can speak languages really well but that would be wonderful."
"Because I was Jenny. I am Jenny. There's always been a Jenny and always will be. Uncle Doctor says I'm the last Jenny. Das uber-Jenny." She laughs then and throws open her arms, spinning in a circle.
"And Daddy told me when I was little. And Jack. And Shen. They all worked with Nik. I don't have a computer in my brain neither. Daddy does and Carrier does. Do you speak every language ever? Can you fly? I like flying, I'm better at falling."
"If there always is and always will be, why are you the last,' Sam asked, sliding down to sit on the end of the bed, watching the girl.
"I can speak any language I hear for a little bit and I can write any I see. Right now I can speak about two dozen languages, if you count dialects and write about half again that many. But nope, that's all I can do. I can fall real well though."
She sits down on the floor again. "You should talk to Uncle Doctor. Half his brain is as old as people is, so he speaks everything ever. I'll be able to fly one day."
"Like... So you can't be refined... No, that's the wrong word." She frowned, canting her head. "Are you like a clone then?" She wasn't sure if that was rude but she was too damn curious not to ask.
"Really? I will definitely do this then. Why Uncle Doctor?"
"No, silly, Jenny Sparks died when the mill-en-i-um changed and I was born when the new one started. But I cna't do all my stuff yet because I'm not quite six yet." She holds up one hand a finger. "I'll be six on new year's day!"
She sighs and drops her hands. "Because, he's my uncle and he's The Doctor. And his name is hard to say."
"Well, you know, you are amazingly bright and brilliant for a little girl that's not quite six. We'll have to have a real special birthday for you though, won't we?'
"No sighing. Lots of words are hard to pronounce. I have trouble with them too."
"Jeh-Ro-En." She shrugs. "Or something... Jenny S always called him Doctor. And I call him Uncle Doctor. Dad calls him Jeroen, but usually that's when he's not well and floating up by the ceiling talking 'bout the caterpillars in the walls. There aren't caterpillars in the wall."
She wrinkles her nose. "You think Daddy'll come back for my birthday?"
Jenny shakes her head. "No, that's Dad. I mean Daddy. Daddy Midnighter. He went away and said he wasn't going to live with us anymore, not in our rooms, not even on Carrier. And Santa isn't real, so he can't make Daddy come home for Christmas, but maybe he will for my birthday?"
She clambers up onto the bed next to Sam. "Dad said you don't have a family anymore and that's why you're moving in with us."
Pushing up so she could sit back against the wall, she blinked, trying to focus on the child. "Uhmmm, hi." She paused, frowning as she tried to remember. "Jenny?"
