Well, I don't bake cakes... I have tried baking cookies and stuff, and it worked ok without preheating - they were edible, and that's almost more than I expected :DD Next time I'll try that preheating idea, maybe things will work out even better ^_^
It's not like I can really mess up without a recipe - cookies are just flour, eggs, butter, and sugar. I just keep adding things until the dough looks just about right, and that's it :DD
In my opinion, aesthetics comes into the equation only on special occasions like birthdays, New Years and other celebrations. Otherwise, if the food is edible, it's good enough.
