Today I turned another year older. But I still feel and look the same, young and naughty.
I met up with Jude and Christina at Low Yatt plaza for lunch after I went to Keat Photo to buy my Manfrotto 486RC2 ball head for my Manfrotto 190B tripod. The next item on my shopping list for the day was Kinston 512MB 20X Compact Flash card. The price dropped from RM 400 to RM390 but I managed to get it for RM 385.
I bought Jude and Christina lunch. After lunch we shopped for my CF card and Christina shopped for her computer speakers. We both got what we needed to get so now we shop for her evening dress. Her older sister is getting married in June so she needs a nice new evening dress for the evening. Surprisingly Low Yat has a collection of nice evening dress and casual fashion for ladies.
Christina and I had been complaining to Jude that ever since the day he arrived in KL, it's been raining in the afternoon. And so it seems the next few days while he was here.
In the evening, Melissa booked me for a night out. We went for dinner at Rain Nudle House at KLCC and later for a drink either at Zouk or Twelve SI. I had a shock when I met up with her early in the evening to find that she looked so different; she was wearing a black cocktail dress. The dinner at Rain was ok -- we had Thai food. After dinner we walked over to her car at Jalan Sultan Ismail to drop off something and continued walking towards Beach Club. Things turned bad as we were about to cross the road at the junction in front of Chakri White House. I was finishing my phone conversation with Jude while Melissa was standing to my right. We were both by the road side, waiting to cross over to the other side where Beach Club is, when suddenly I heard her shout. It all happened too fast. When I turned to her I saw a motor bike speeding off with her hand bag! She was in a state of shock and the bike was about 30 meters from us speeding away.
Too fast for anyone to give a chase. There was nothing we could do but to calm each other down. Next thing we could think ok was to walk towards KLCC direction to the Polis Pondok to make our report. I kept blaming myself for being so careless, not being thoughtful enough to advice her to carry her hand bag on her shoulder instead. I'm too used to walking on my own with a backpack. I didn’t really know what to say to her to make her feel better. I wanted to give her a hug to make her feel better but I gave her a pat on the back instead and told her it's gonna be alright. After the report at the Polis pondok, we were told to go over to Dang Wangi Police Station to make a statement and to collect her temporary ID and driving license slip. It was a difficult to get a cab at the time so I decided to get my housemate Khai to help. Luckily he just got home so he quickly came over to give us a ride.
After Melissa made her statement, we drove to her apartment to pick up her spare car keys. Her housemate Lisa came along to company her. I thought the problem would be over soon but it got worst when we got back to her car and tried to unlock the doors using the spare keys, only to find that the spare key doesn't work on all the 3 doors. It wasn’t the correct spare key for that car. That was the only set of spare keys she got when she bought the second hand car. After trying hard for about 20 minutes, we decided to call for help. Khai called his friend for recommendation to an AAM panel locksmith. What bad timing -- his friend was in a middle of "something" when he called her. Oops. But anyway we got the contact for the locksmith. The locksmith had to drive all the way down to KL from Subang, which would take about 30 minutes in slow traffic. While waiting for him to arrive, we saw another snatch case on the same road. This time it happened about 20 meters away from the police booth. About 30 minutes later the police started to do a major road block on Jalan Sultan Ismail targeting mainly on bikers.
The locksmith got to KL but he doesn’t know where we were so Khai and I walked over to KLCC bus stop to meet him. There was a major jam caused by the roadblock. Worst still as it is Saturday night at Jalan Sultan Ismail, the clubbing zone of KL.
It only took the locksmith about 30 seconds to pick the door open. It was like what we used to see in the movies. Cool! Next we all watched him quietly while he picked at the gear lock. The gear lock was really hard to pick -- it took him about 5 minutes. Well, at least we know the gear lock works. After the gear lock, was the steering and ignition lock. He replaced the ignition lock as the there was no spare key. The next problem was that we don’t have key to unlock the car door. So the locksmith had to make a duplicate key based on the ignition lock which he took out. This guy is really professional. He made a key based on the lock without using a machine.
Melissa had to pay the locksmith RM 400 for his services but I think it was worth it. He did a great job. All of us asked him for his business card, just in case we might need his services one day.
While we were all waiting and watching the locksmith at work, Eric, Melissa’s BF bought 2 big bottles of mineral water and half a dozen of packet drinks. Melissa jokingly said “I just opened 2 bottles tonight!”. Well, ya for the price if RM 400, we could have opened 2 bottles in a club. Khai said “Well, if it happened to me next time, I’ll call you guys up and it’ll be my turn to open the bottles.” Wow, 2 bottles and half a dozen at the parking lot in KL’s club land. How interesting can that be?
