My apartment is clean, the table is set, Le Boyfriend is on his way, dinner is started, and I can feel like I have earned my last post of the year. I cleaned out a bunch of old stuff too - get that outdated stuff out for the new year! I <3 being a Domestic Goddess!

Tonight's menu is lemon-garlic turkey tenderloin, roasted potatoes with parmesan and garlic, a deliciously-textured whole grain bread with butter, wilted spinach salad and red wine. Dessert will an assortment of Christmas cookies, possibly some ice cream, and champagne, of course.

I'm picking up a Spanish tradition that I heard about this week. You put 12 grapes in your champagne flute (with the champagne, of course, heh), and each grape represent a full and prosperous month. Tomorrow I'm making pork loins (another good-luck charm, because pigs always root forward and never look back. Chicken and turkey are considered bad luck, because they have to scratch for a living), couscous (instead of beans, but they are similar enough for the tradition, representing many coins and swelling when they are cooked). Can you tell I really, REALLY want a prosperous year?

One minute to midnight
One minute to go
One minute to say good-bye
Before we say hello

Let's start the new year right
Twelve o'clock tonight
When they dim the light
Let's begin

Kissing the old year out
Kissing the new year in

Let's watch the old year die
With a fond good-bye
And our hopes as high
As a kite

How can our love go wrong if
We start the new year right?

HAPPY NEW YEAR, 2009!!!

kitchen witchin', new year's eve, holiday, domestic bliss
