Owls from Theodosius Binns, dated 12 September 1942

To J Wm Goyle

Properly warded and sealed, on black edged paper, in reply to Goyle's owl.

Dear Professor Goyle,

Thank you for your thoughtfulness in writing yesterday to tell me of my father's death. Hogwarts and his work there was very important to my father, even or perhaps especially in the last year of his life, and I am very glad that he will be remembered fondly. Your kind words are very much appreciated.

I will call to Hogwarts tomorrow afternoon to make arrangements for my father's memorials and to bring him home to lie in our family plot. Would three in the afternoon suit? Please advise, as I am at your disposal.

Sincerely,

Theodosius Binns, Mr.

To his daughter, Michaela Binns

On black edged paper, moderately warded and charmed against Muggle observers

Michaela, darling,

I am very very sorry to tell you that your grandfather passed beyond the Veil at Hogwarts. I know this must be a shock for you - you would have seen him only last weekend, if I understood your plans correctly. If you write - or better, can have someone set up a fire call - as soon as you can, we would like to talk to you, and have you home if possible. I imagine that there will be some form of memorial at the school that we will attend, before the private service at home. If I can help with arrangements, let me know. I am so sorry to give you bad news.

With love,

Your father.
