Hey guys! Now that I have been to my first full week of classes (I enrolled super late so I didn't go to class until the 3rd day of school) it is time for the.... OBLIGATORY FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL POST!
It has been crazy and insane and hectic but it has been pretty good so far =D
Mondays:
Understanding Society- Intro to sociology course. I'm still not really sure about the prof for this course. Am pretty sure he's a PhD candidate at the moment, so his teaching feels a little forced, like he's still trying to figure it out. Like, he knows his shit, VERY well, but it still feels like he's just dancing around the textbook and not adding a whole lot of his own. He reads his powerpoints, which I can't stand, but he adds a lot of class discussion in as well, which is really nice.
Tuesdays:
Conflict Resolution and Dispute Negotiation in Community Services- An elective, haha. Is a 900-level course, meaning 9th semester according to Ryerson, but really a general interest course and for me, a professionally related elective. It's actually pretty neat, there's a big mix of people in that class because it's through continuing education so there's a LOT of 4th year Child and Youth Care students (I'm the only "first" year), but also adults from the community. Instructor is ALSO a PhD candidate but she has definitely taught this course before. REALLY jumpy though, seems she's not big on speaking in front of a group. Again, jumpy, seems a little high strung, but also clearly knows what she's talking about and she seemed to get more comfortable as the class went on. Also super nice =D. Does lots of high school kinda activities, which felt a little childish, maybe, but was a nice break from 3-hour lectures.
Wednesdays:
Introduction to Child and Youth Care- Teacher knows her stuff, but reads her powerpoint. Or at least she did today, due to technical difficulties last week she had to do 2 lectures in 1, so had to do each slide in like, a minute or less. Maybe will be better next week. I really didn't like her at first, her response when I emailed her about having missed the first class due to not being enrolled in it yet was... nice-ish, but really rubbed me the wrong way. She also said some really offensive things to Shosh (who is in another one of her classes) just due to having NO CLUE about anything in relation to the deaf community, not out of malicious intent, just ignorance. So... yeah. Am trying to get over the first impression, given I didn't like her even before I met her this morning.
Thursdays:
Introduction to Psychology I- I REALLY like the prof for this course, she's really cool and her area of interest is clearly the biological side of psychology, which I find really neat =D. Plus I get to use Shosh's old textbook and not buy it~
Fridays:
Nothing!
I am also taking The Social Context of Human Sexuality through distance education on the internet, and should probably do that reading today.... am excited though =D
And that's it, for now!
