Happy Bonfire Night!
Remember, remember, the 5th of November
The Gunpowder Treason and plot;
I know of no reason why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
It's been a while since my last update, so I'll just pick out the important bits.
Have started playing
Travian (server 2, in the southeast, username "lightinthedark" if you want to join and message me). It's a fun gentle distraction from work, which is exactly what I need now that I've finished reading the archive of
"Order of the Stick.
Work is going ok. The reports system that I have been working on for the last few months is live and being used. General feedback is positive, but people keep coming to me saying "can it have ... feature" or "why can't we do ..." so I (with Mike) have to go off and make new features for it. That's been pretty much the entire last month, along with training staff in how to use the thing in the first place. Really want to get started on the next project (which the reports system should have been a part of anyway).
MIke is still learning his way around PHP. I had rather hoped that he'd be totally independant by now, but he still makes rookie mistakes, and sometimes seems to not entirely understand the code he's just written (having copied the structure of a separate bit of code which often does something subtly different to what he wants). He is improving, but I wonder if he'll ever be a coding Jedi.
The bike is still running fine (praise the Lord). I suspect that the next things to be worked on on it are the brakes (am realising that they are a bit squidgy - not what you want on a machine like that), and the clutch (I may be being paranoid, but it doesn't sound/feel completely happy). The brakes probably need disassembling, cleaning and reassembling as I believe the issue is probably sticky pistons. The clutch I have no idea, but Jim assures me that clutch kits are really cheap: "... only about £100." *cough*. Yeah, £100 may be cheap for motoring things, but it's still quite a lot of money.
Bought myself some better gloves yesterday. Hopefully they'll keep my hands from falling off through the winter months, although the ride back from the shop didn't inspire me with huge confidence in them... guess we'll just have to see how it goes. Also I am pretty sure I will never have a pair of gloves that actually fit me nicely as the ones I bought were XXL and the biggest that they do in that line but still just a little short in the fingers. The perils of being as immensely tall as I am.
On the lady front: things have been a little lively at least. Jin and I went to a club night in Plymouth with Chris and some of his friends. One of whom was quite pretty and took a fancy to me. We hit it off somewhat and things were going fine until I asked 2 very important questions: 1) "How old are you?" (she looked about 32 but her life story didn't seem like it would fit in that space), and 2) "So, where do you live?" (important if we were going to see each other after that night. It turns out she is 42 and lives in Norwich. Bugger.
A few days later, I was at a party thrown by Dave Buxton (formerly a Wildern person) and met one of his friends called Jane. She pretty and friendly and nice and taken. Despite being involved though, the tone of text messages from her has been a little flirtatious. It's nice to think that I could, but if the chance comes around I'm really not sure I should. It's a bit of interest at least though.
Anyway, that's quite enough from me for now. Will update again soon.
