I rewatched this episode the other day with the girls (
lavitaestbella &
yourmanuscript) again~! hahaha, I missed our rewatches! They make like zero sense and mainly comprise of 'faaaaace!'
And then last night I was able to watch it again by myself before going to bed (~in the dark~) and omg it made me weepy. DAMN YOU MORGAN. Despite the issues I have with this episode, and the series in general, I did love this episode to bits. It was gorgeous and there were some amazing scenes. I couldn't physically help making a picspam(so late though, sorry D;). An ode to the end~! /sobsob
IT IS. VERY. LONG. I APOLOGISE!
"i'm sorry you're having to do this"
"why? you're not to blame"
I loved that it jumped straight into action, and I loved the dynamic of Merlin and Arthur from the start. It was full of the foreshadowing of the future; with King Arthur and Merlin as his advisor by his side. But then Merlin had to go and make that face and this is the start of my heart breaking. Into very small pieces.
"do not imagine that your petty magic can harm me"
And here comes one of my issues. I love how Arthur and everyone else is conveniently absent when Merlin uses magic...
People have been asking why the dragon attacked Camelot instead of just fleeing, but I thought his entire point of helping Merlin with his destiny was so that Arthur could become the King that sets him free? But seeing as there were some corners cut there, he decided to just have some fun with the kingdom~
"if this man still exists, it is our duty to find him"
I purposefully left out the Arthur/Gwen scene, because yeah, there goes issue no. 2. Am I the only one who thinks Arthur always looks stoned when he's talking to her? I like to go with the idea that he's just tripping and all the A/G scenes are ~hallucinations~ but then
frostheavens mentioned how he seems to have always lost blood right before, so take from that what you will.
Colinnnnn. Stop making those faces. D; I love how 'I'll ride out alone' means, 'come on Merlin'.
"no, i had a right to know"
SOOBBB. Here he goes again D;
I think it was
lavitaestbella who made the interesting point of saying how this scene is incredibly ironic in the way that Merlin is the one who is currently keeping the secret from Arthur, who really, does have a right to know. I loved the revelation though; I always enjoy finding out new things about the characters' pasts.
This one was just for the pretty. So sue me.
"you think one of these men are Balinor?"
"i hope not"
"so do i"
fokfghokg[phgnh wet ♥
"i know i'm a prince, so we can't be friends. but if i wasn't a prince-"
"what?"
"well then, i think we'd probably get on"
oh my god, this scene. Show, you have really outgayed yourself ♥ Never change.
I love their exchanges in this scene, gosh they're so cute. I love Arthur's development towards the end of this series, into actually caring about Merlin's feelings. Although I'd like to think he can tell when Merlin is lying.
Also, PILLOWFIGHTS! FDGH;G ♥ ♥
Sir Leonnnnnnnnn ♥
I was actually going, 'he is the crappest knight; he never notices when someone's in his room' right before he scared the crap out of me and grabbed that mans arm. First cap, just because awwwww ♥
"no, it's the wound, let me have a look"
Too easy. Though I will say, am I the only one who lolled at Arthur in that last panel?
Colin's hands ;gkfg
LA LA LA COLIN!NECK ♥
"what if one of them was your son?"
"i don't have a son"
oh Balinor, he is so adorable ♥
I love the tentative way Colin approaches the subject of Camelot. I love the way he's trying to find out more without giving too much away.
And then Arthur, Arthur had to moan his name. Show, are you trying to be subtle or have you just given up trying?
I actually thought maybe he was starting and wanted something, but no, just his usual Merlin!moaning.
"i was hoping you'd be like him. i wanted-"
I had to include this because his faaaaace. You can just read so much from his eyes and his expressions and the tone of his voice. Oh Merlin, I wanted your dad to be awesome too ♥
I left out that Gwen/Balcony scene because it angers me to no end. Are the writers trying to make me hate her? Because it's working. Your friend is missing, maybe even dead, and all you seem to care about is Arthur. Goddamn. Not even Merlin. *facepalm*
you're a riddle merlin"
"a riddle?"
"yes, but i've got to quite like you"
Oh show. Every time Arthur opened his mouth, it was like a love confession. No really, never change.
"i don't know what it is to have a son"
"nor i, a father"
This scene was so beautifully done! Oh my gosh, his face in the 7th panel. KILL. ME. NOW.
"what kind of life would you have had here?"
"we would've been... happy"
Stop it Colin. Stop it right now.
The scenes with his father were really so gorgeous ♥ Really genuine and heartfelt. It was all that more painful because we all knew he was going to be taken away from Merlin.
"cenred's men"
AAGGHG'HLGFH'HGFH
I love, love Merlin's immediate anger and that he can do that ~thing~ like Mordred. It was perfect for the moment, but wth, again with the absent!Arthur.
"i've seen enough in you, to know that you will make me proud"
I CANNOT EVEN. KILL ME NOW!
oh my god, I was a mess just choosing these caps. How many times has someone died in this
boy's arms now? Will, Gaius, Freya, Morgana, Balinor and Arthur every now and again. He. Needs. Counciling.
Last three panels? BRB, CRYING. FOREVER.
"those brave enough to volunteer should know the chances of returning are slim"
This scene is chilling. Again with the foreshadowing; King Arthur and his roundtable.
More Merlin killing me in the background.
"when i faced the great dragon, my magic was useless"
Eight months of crying. He must be so emotionally spent by now.
"merlin, if i die please-"
"what?"
"the dragonlord today, i saw you. one thing i tell all my young knights; no man is worth your tears"
This scene makes me so freaking emotional. It's basically Arthur telling Merlin to move on when he dies and to not sit at home and cry about it.
OMG CRYING ALL OVER AGAIN.
Their armour!scenes are so beauiful ♥ and the lighting and Arthur's expressions. /slain
"are you really going to face this dragon with me?"
"i'm not going to sit here and watch. i know it's hard for you to understand how i feel but... well i care a hell of a lot about that armour, i'm not going to let you mess it up"
*flatline*
"hold firm"
Well that plan failed. Seriously, how many knights do they go through each week?
Bradley's jaw, unf unf
"you're the last dragonlord now. you alone carry the ancient gift"
This whole scene gave me chills. I think the part where he's walking and the voiceover is playing, was incredibly well done. Also, when he started whispering the words, gh;glhkg;lhk am i the only one who thought that was really hot?
Also boy, YOU SHOULD HAVE JUST KILLED HIM. Although this makes for an interesting plot device, homeboy deserved it.
"merlin i know i can never compare to your father, but for what it's worth you've still got me"
*facepalm* conveniently conscious Arthur is convenient. GROW SOME BALLS SHOW.
Nonetheless, I did think the end was quite epic. Although I feel it should have just ended on the two of them walking back; would have made a bigger impact. Oh Gwen, how random you are.
All in all, this episode was amazing, though it would have been so much better if there was a reveal. So much better!
Cannot wait for S3 nine monthhhhhsssss D; D;, which hopefully has more Morgana ♥
Gosh, this was long. I'm so sorry.
All caps are from
killcolor ♥
