Look, the US is fucked.
We know this, and Canada is rapidly following suit. Well, it's always been the same old story -- the aristocrats/moneyed class vs everyone else. What might be amazing is how blatant it all is these days in some places. The US post-election is just running whole-hog to Plutocracy at a level not seen for maybe 100 years. It's been a steady drum-beat most of my life, but I can't remember it quite being this blatant.
With the ongoing massive recession and job-destruction, I would very much like to see something like
a new WPA but I don't see anyone having that kind of courage anytime soon.
(Not that you shouldn't
send the White House a line anyway.)
Cenk Uygur gave a
righteous rant about the situation post-election. The Democrats are part of the problem these days - the Catfood Commission report this week should settle those doubting. Primary them to all hell, since the US doesn't have a parliamentary system (even if the GOP is working as if they do).
As some of you know, I'm a fan of John Ralston Saul, who predicted a lot of this mentality.
So, honestly, outside of abandoning things to hunker down in intentional communities of privilege, do any of my friends in the USA have hope of things getting better in the next generation or two? Or are you guys going straight for neo-feudalism?
