and creator of the TV show ER has died Tuesday at the age of 66 from cancer. Truly a master of science fiction, all of his novels were well researched and consistent in addition to being a good read. Timeline is one of very few time travel stories I have found that didn't tie itself into logical knots that ruin suspension of disbelief if you think about it too much. Many of his books were made into movies, and Timeline became a video game, but compared to the books the other versions generally sucked. Jurassic Park (the first one only) was actually OK, but the book was much better.
