Hrm. With the most recent airfare increases, it has once again become cheaper to take Amtrak from Atlanta to New York for the
Pompeii exhibition in Discovery Times Square or to Philadelphia for the
Leonardo's Workshop exhibition (which just left DTS) at the Franklin Institute. If I could sleep in crappy plane seats on red-eye flights to and from Seattle, I could sleep on the wider, more comfortable train seats. Hmmmm.
I was considering a small trip someplace anyway, and had been looking at those two as a spring weekend mini-vacation before being laid off, much less the rehire. The discovery that my younger brother and his wife are headed to Iceland for a half-week in April made me a bit more restless, I suspect. They apparently thought about me when they saw the prices--her especially, as we've talked about travel probably even more than I do with him--but as I was newly unemployed at the time, decided against saying something then. He'd just forgotten in the interim that he hadn't told me yet that they were going. :)
