Blargh! Ooo, Chai....

Feeling slightly less crappy, but still half-coughing my head off, so I've pretty much decided at this point not to share my illness with everyone at the Big Social Party. I think this is the first time since I've moved to Atlanta that I've missed it, but I've been feeling worse today than the rest of the week. I should probably go see the doctor early in the week, as I know for certain that my sinus infection from around Christmas has migrated into my left ear (as one can tell from the tenderness and swelling), and I'm coughing my head off, and I appear to have picked up my father's predilection for having a blood vessel randomly pop within the eyeball. (The far right corner of my right eye looked irritated and really red earlier in the week, but I didn't feel a thing, and it looked not-quite-as-blood-red as his used to.) I'm hoping that my coughing isn't picking up his predilection for bronchitis during the winter. I really should get a new humidifier, since my old one broke in the move several years ago. That always helps him--to the point that they have a pretty good-sized one in their current house--and I suspect it would help me as well. I know it helped somewhat during the winters that I used the old one.

I was perhaps a little down because of taking down the tree today, though that was more of an encouragement to go to the party and extend the winter holiday season a little more. I always hate taking down my Christmas tree, which is part of why I get a real tree these days. I love the smell throughout the apartment, but I also like that a real tree really forces me to take it down, if only so that I can hit Georgia's "Bring One for the Chipper" event and get it mulched and recycled before it fills my dining room with dead needles. The first time I had my own apartment and an artificial tree, the tree stayed up for13 months. It might have stayed up longer, but my roommate and I moved out of that place, which again was a force to take it down. We just had nothing else to put in that corner of the room. I really enjoyed listening to music with the lit tree in, say, July. It was romantic, at least once my date got past the fact that I had a Christmas tree up in my apartment in July. (By that time, it had been up over 6 months. It was less than 6 months to Christmas. I was just early!)

So instead, I'm sitting at home sipping decaf chai and updating LJ while taking a brief break from Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney: Justice For All. It's really more like a Nintendo DS version of the Two-Minute Mysteries that I used to read than it's like CSI or Law & Order or something, but it's nonetheless a lot of fun. It was a present from my younger brother, who knows me well enough to get appropriate gifts that I'd've not picked up on my own. (Though in this case, I'd actually been looking for it, though he didn't know that....)
