I managed to get to another hockey game last night. I've decided I really like it when these particular clients have open tickets, because I sort of enjoy sitting 5 rows above the ice behind one goal. I definitely get into hockey, though season tickets are really not a major option, due to my erratic schedule. (Well, and the regular Wednesday night commitment I have.) Still, it was an exciting game between the Thrashers and the Islanders, with the Thrashers scoring three goals in 1:40, prompting a switch of goalies on the part of the Islanders. The Thrashers won 5-4 in overtime, but they just got about halfway through the sudden death. No shootout or mumbledy-peg or rock-scissors-paper this time. Kovalchuk scored on the goal right in front of us to end the game, which was nice.
However, I spent a wee bit more than I intended to spend at the game. I considered getting a jersey (#32, Kari Lehtonen) before noticing there was a silent auction set up benefiting some kids' charity. I briefly entertained a thought of getting a signed Joe Thornton pic for
tersa, especially since there were no bids yet. Then I looked at the minimum bid and declined. Looking around, I noticed there was a slightly smaller Lehtonen-signed framed photo that I somewhat liked, and it was in my price range--i.e., a little less than the jersey. I bid on it, figuring I'd use some of the cash my parents gave me for Christmas, so I'd have something to show them. I decided that much as I'd love to have the jersey to wear to games, I also didn't mind supporting a kids' charity. Happily, I won the print. I'm trying to decide where to put it in my apartment. It doesn't really go well in the living room--which has little wallspace anyway--and gets lost in the blank expanse of the walls in the dining room. I'm sure it'll end up someplace in my bedroom, and I've pretty much narrowed it to a couple of good spots there.
I'm sort of surprised I got it as moderately cheaply as I did, especially considering that the larger Lehtonen pic was going for about double what I paid. Admittedly, that was for a slightly larger photo where you could see his face. Mine's a shot from above and behind as he's down on the ice, legs to either side as if to block a shot. It's still definitely Kari--that or they got someone with his approximate build and exact same honey-colored hair to be in the shot. The Kovalchuks & Hossas were understandably going for much more still. I'm happy, though. Among other things, I was wanting some artwork for my too-barren bedroom walls anyway, and a signed hockey pic fits perfectly.
