Find Your Music

School (work) is about to start for me again and I'll be teaching 4th grade. Yesterday the district had something called a "Regeneration Celebration" for the entire staff. They brought in a man by the name of Richard Pimentel. After hearing this man speak, I found that I needed to tell everyone about this. Here's the VERY short version:

Richard Pimentel is the most unlikely person to do anything, but because of everything he's gone through, someone asked if they could do a short film about his accomplishments. He laughed and then consequently won at a few independent film festivals. Someone from a major motion picture company saw it and BAM! His full length movie is coming out in September.

You ask why this is so great... because of him we have the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act).  In his movie he shows how he got rid of the "Ugly Law" (which was real) that states that if someone was disabled, they couldn't be out in public.

The movie title is  FIND YOUR MUSIC and has such stars in it as: Ron Livingston from Office Space, Marion Ross from Happy Days, and many more that I am having trouble remembering.

You're probably asking why I care or why I'm telling you. First, I'm in education and this is important to me. Second, you never know when something might happen and you'll be the one that is disabled and everyone is staring at you. This movie shows how important this ADA law is and how it protects your rights.

I strongly encourage you to go see it. I laughed at his humorous stories. I cried at his heartfelt thank yous to the teachers. He stared directly at me when talking about making a difference. He shook my hand and asked me my name when we had a moment alone afterwards. I was in awe of the trailer.  This is the only movie made yet that is because of four teachers impacting one man's life and making a difference in the world. Go see it in September.
