Title: Sweet in the Bitter
Characters/Pairing: Bran, John, Owen
Rating: G
Warnings: Angst
Summary: John listens to Bran playing the harp.
Notes: Written as part of my "courting the muse" series, for the Greek muse Euterpe who presided over music.
John has found that there is always something a touch mournful about Bran's harp playing. There's no fault in Bran's music, but everything seems to come out painted with Bran's own strange remoteness, with his horrible loneliness, and sometimes even with echoes of his Da's neverending grief. Listening to Bran play always makes John think of Blodwen, what he had and lost. He understands, now, why Owen was at first reluctant to let Bran play.
There's comfort in it, though, some hint of sweet woven through the bitter, and so John stays to listen, and remember, as Owen does not.
