The affairs of the Light have taken him away from his family before, but never like this. Never so that as he stands watching Stephen kiss his wife, hand on her stomach -- she's pregnant, and he's proud, bright, happy. It makes Will smile and yet it strikes him at his very heart, seeing a beginning of his estrangement from those he protects. He knows this is just the first taste of a cup he will drink to the dregs, and he's not sure if he can stand it.
But seeing Stephen so happy, Will knows he can't do otherwise.
