"It's okay to be upset, you know," Jane said, softly. Will spun round to look at her, taking a moment to realise who it was in the half-dark, and then smiled sadly, stuffing his hands into his pockets.

"You don't understand."

She shrugged, moving up beside him and looking down at the small gravestone, still new and clean and bright white. "I understand enough, I think... Bran was your friend, and now he's dead, and now you're being hopeless like most men and refusing to cry. Anything else doesn't really matter. Crying isn't a sign of weakness or something."

Will's smile was barely there, but it was a smile. "I know. There's just... it's just difficult."

"And that means you can't cry?"

"It means I shouldn't... I shouldn't get caught up in grieving. Over anyone."

Jane looked at him for a long moment and then shook her head, stepping closer and wrapping her arms around him. For a moment, he stood stiff and still, surprised and not quite comfortable, and then he suddenly relaxed and closed his eyes. "It's okay," Jane said, softly. She tightened her arms a little. "No matter what's going on, you can spare five minutes of grieving for a friend, right?"

Will took a deep breath. His breath hitched suspiciously and his eyes were closed. Jane didn't make him say anything. She didn't stop holding him. And after a moment, she just leaned up and kissed him, ever so softly, tasting salt on his lips.

"It's okay," she said softly. And then, daringly: "I'm here."
