"As you know, this means war."

Only one thought had gone through Riza's mind when Ed had returned to the Nexus in a state of pure, cold, rage. She carried out with that thought without a word, and had retreated to her room to quickly change; then out came a heavy box from the back of her closet shelf, and the gun within was loaded for the first time since she couldn't remember ( Read more... )

Edward had indeed come up with a few leads.

He spent most of the time she was gone pacing around, stopping and glancing over the files and the maps, then resuming the pacing.

It was hard to think past the ice cold in his veins, past the fact that they had Al- the thought was blinding him, and blocking out most rational thought.

(Stop. Think.) he ordered himself, returning to the table and staring down at the maps of Central, at the files and reports.

Probably a populated area. Or near it. They wouldn't chance being caught actually in a populated area. Too much risk.

His eyes drifted over the map, mentally checking off areas that could apply. He noticed, briefly and a bit wryly, that the area where that church had been was a possibility.

Something about one area, though...

He frowned, leaning closer to inspect the map. Tapping his finger against the paper, he started rifling through the other files, wracking his memory of the area.

Ah-hah. There was the information he wanted.

A quick check over the rest of the map again confirmed that that was the only area like that.

Bingo.

Riza hung back from the safehouse to make sure no one was following or watching her. She walked to the door, neither running nor dawdling, and with a fluid ease, opened the door and slipped out of sight of the street, shutting it quickly and setting the bag on a chair as she turned around.

"Find anything while I was gone?"

Edward looks up at her, a feral grin on his face. "I have. I know where they are."

"Where?" she asked, walking over, already reaccustomed to the additional weight and positioning of the guns at her sides and back, moving with an easy grace. She looked down at the map as she stopped beside him.

Edward points to one of the more run-down areas of Central, right along the edge of a more heavily-populated, lower-class neighborhood. "There. Take a look what's around there. Some old factory warehouses, most of them out of use, some of them condemned. Take a look what's just a few blocks from there. A hospital. I checked, that hospital's still in use. It's a low-income place, but still in use, still full of ready-made, hard-to-evacuate hostages."

Riza studied the map, the area he pointed out, and was quiet as she thought back over her firsthand knowledge of the area. Then she nodded slowly. "That... yeah. That looks like a perfect place. It's certainly worth checking up." She looked at him for a moment, then turned away. "I'm going to fill the canteen I grabbed with some water. If you're ready to go look around in person, take what you need out of the files and I'll lock down the rest here."

Edward shakes his head, folding up the map. "I'm taking this, just in case I'm wrong, but I think that's the place. I don't need anything else."

She nodded in response, filling the canteen with water. "Okay, we're about ready." Riza shut off the faucet and screwed the cap into place, setting it aside to gather up the rest of the files.

Holding them under one arm, she dragged one end of the old, battered sofa away from the wall, and pulled the wood planks up to get to the safe. Seventeen right, forty-one left, twenty-three right. The files were dropped inside and everything was put back to where it had been.

Edward cracks his left wrist a few times idly as he watches her, waits impatiently for her to finish.

Once she straightens again and pushes the couch back to it's original position, he lets go of his wrist, dropping his hands to his side. "Ready?"

She gave him a curt nod in response, not looking up from the PIN as she worked out the coordinates to return where they had been before.

"We're going to have a slight walk ahead of us to get to the right part of town. I'm just going to use the recall coordinates," she informed him, and picked her bag up, slinging it over her shoulder.

She held her hand out to him, and laced their fingers.

The button was pressed.

Showtime.
