"As you know, this means war."

Only one thought had gone through Riza's mind when Ed had returned to the Nexus in a state of pure, cold, rage. She carried out with that thought without a word, and had retreated to her room to quickly change; then out came a heavy box from the back of her closet shelf, and the gun within was loaded for the first time since she couldn't remember ( Read more... )

Edward scoured the article in the paper with the terrorists' demands for Fullmetal silently, searching for some sign, maybe some coded message about where the hell he was supposed to go to 'turn himself' in.

Nothing.

Goddamn stupid terrorists. How the hell was anyone supposed to answer their demands if they didn't know where to go?

He tossed the paper into the nearest trash with a bit of a snit, and glanced at Riza. "Got any connections in the military we could check with that won't get us in trouble for being AWOL? The assholes didn't leave any sort of word on where to go."

She studied him for a heartbeat before nodding. "We need to get to East City. If we use the PIN, there's safehouses there we can use for a base, and I can call my grandfather. I need to do that anyway, since I need more guns and ammo. We could call Havoc or Breda, but I'm not sure where they are right now, and if nothing else, Grandfather can dig up the info we need one way or another." She quirked a faint smile. "I'll be in a lot of trouble with him for being AWOL, but only to the point of getting an ear-blistering lecture on worrying everybody."

"Better a lecture than a court martial," he replied. "All right, calibrate the PIN for out there, then. A safe place to go back to before we go to the Nexus to take care of injuries would be good, anyway." That, and to explain the Nexus to Al so he doesn't go in totally unprepared, but hey, details.

"That's what I was thinking." She studied the PIN, having had a quick crash-course in how to operate it before leaving the Nexus. Coordinates. Joy.

The PIN provided some coordinate options, and she went with one outside the city to be safe. She had no idea how accurage such long-range coordinate estimates would be and the idea of ending up inside a wall instead didn't appeal to her.

"We'll arrive outside of East City, at least this time," Riza said.

Edward cracks his knuckles impatiently while she calibrates the PIN, and nods in response. "That's fine. A walk won't kill us." Though he's clearly loathe to spend the extra time when that just means that much more time that Al is still in captivity.

But even without asking, he can guess why that's the safer option, and impatient or not, he knows he can't very well help Al if he's stuck in a wall or god only knows what else.

Caliberated, activated, and there.

"This way," she said, pulling the bill of her cap a bit lower over her eyes as she walked through the streets, constantly checking for anyone watching or following them. She discreetly drew her sidearm as she approached a building, and crouched, glancing around again before quickly yanking out a loose brick and reaching inside, withdrawing a key.

Unlock the door, open, enter, check and secure the premises. "Clear."

Edward at least, was smart enough to hang back a bit while she got out the key and secured the premises. While she certainly wasn't as obvious about who she was, he stood out like a sore thumb- he was advertising that 'hey there, the Fullmetal Alchemist is back', after all.

Once she announces the place clear, he glances around and follows her into the safehouse. "How far from here is your grandfather's house?"

"Several blocks," she said, her tone brisk as she holstered her gun. "It'll be safer to call him though and find out where to meet." She reached for the telephone.

Edward raises an eyebrow a little, watching her and almost smirking at how easily she's slipped back into Lieutenant Hawkeye mode. "Tell him to include a couple grenades on the list of what we want to take off his hands."

She glanced to him. "We'll get to that. First I want to touch base with him without him having a heart attack." She dialed the number to the office ( ... )

Edward takes a seat while she's on the phone, eyebrow raising a bit yet again at the 'Heather' routine.

They certainly had this whole act down.

Edward frowns at her news. "Two hours?"

Two hours. Two hours he had to wait, doing nothing, while his brother was held in captivity. Probably in pain, if these kidnappers were as angry at Fullmetal as they seemed to be (and not entirely bluffing about their threat to kill the 'doppleganger'). Possibly being put into further pain.

He didn't like the idea in the slightest.
