"Sorcerer Kings?" Riza blinked and looked to some apples, inspecting them before putting them in a sack. "I'm afraid I haven't any idea what those are? I know the word sorcerer, and I know the word king, but..."

"Bit of history from my world. I know I've heard it used differently around here, but, where I come from, a sorcerer is anyone who uses evil arcana... magic. Until the resistance overthrew most of them about three hundred years ago, a group of them -- the Sorcerer Kings -- were running most of the known world." Melisan had collected a small bag of fruit himself, nad was looking it over.

"Ahh. I see." Riza nods. "For us, it was homunculi, and a psychotic, body-stealing bitch." She smiled, more of an ironic look than a humored one.

"She sounds like she'd fit right in with the old Sorcerer Kings. Thankfully, only one of them is still in existance -- he's bad enough. What's a homonucleus."

"A homunculus is a... well..." She hesitated. "As I do happen to know some nice ones, I'm reluctant to use any of the more exact definitions, such as an artificial human. But in my world, they're created when someone attempts to perform human transmutation to bring someone back from the dead. It never works quite as it ought, and a homunculus, with powers beyond any normal human, is created instead. That's not true of my alternate's world, however. I'm not sure how they're created there."

Melisan frowned. "Sounds a bit like a vampire or a lich."

"No, they're not vampires, at least I haven't seen anything to indicate they require human lives to feed on, and I'm not sure what a lich is."

"Another type of unliving -- they bind their soul into an object so that even if their body dies, they still will be in this world. Usually because their soul is so tainted by darkness, it won't end up anywhere good when they die."

"That sounds more like what Dante was, in a manner of speaking. She was the woman who controlled the homunculi on my world. She stayed alive for hundreds of years by transfering her soul from body to body."

"I'm glad I never met her."

"I didn't until after I arrived here and she decided for some bizarre reason that I'd make a perfect prospect for her new body."

"Lovely. I take it you stopped her, though."

"No, I didn't. Other people did."

"Someone did."

"Yeah. Someone did."

"Good."
