(11) Habits

Habits are like habitats, a place to come home to, something unchanging in our lives.  When all else seems to fail, there's the habit to come back to.

One person that comes to mind is this guy at my apartment complex that literally ran a shirt right off of his back.  I remember when the shirt was relatively in good condition, but after a year or so he actually had to tie the shirt back together.  Now he's got a new shirt, but he still runs I think every day.

I also remember the Pearl Jam song!  "...never thought you'd habit"  That one comes from before I started smoking... It's day 11 since I quit.  For me, I chose to smoke at some point and I still remember my reasoning at the time.  Along the way, I had a lot of reasons to stop and start, stop and start.  I'm not at a point where I can really reflect on this habit, but I find it so interesting that my reasoning for starting the first time is connected in many ways to the reason I have for finally calling it quits.
