It was an ordinary monday...

It was the 7th of July in the year 2008. I was peacefully uploading Sori and Corvo onto my deviantART when I heard my sister in law say the words, "We have a fire." After a few times of hearing about a fire somewhere in the house I went out to check it out.

Now, just to let you know, my sister Lora is living with us temporarily with the baby. To keep them out of the way, her baby bottles were stored in the upper oven. This is not horribly unusual for us as there are things in the upper oven a fair amount of the time. (It's where we hide sweets and such from visiting children)

Anywho, My brother Kent and his family came over for Family Home Evening and decided that he wanted to make some lemon bars... so he flipped on the oven to pre-heat it. Needless to say, he did not check if the oven was other wise occupied. Meanwhile, my sister and mother, helping Kent with the tasty treats, seemed to have totally forgotten about the oven's contents.

This resulted in an over-the-top oven fire. The bottles had completely melted and proved to be excellent fuel for the flames.

A glass of water only made a big >poof< of firey death, and the 1 1/2 boxes of Baking Soda did absolutely nothing. My parents decided to then try to remove the melted bottle bits from the oven and place them into a mettle tray... this however only resulted in a sweet looking firey fountain.

So, in my calm and demur state, I ran next door and retrieved our neighbor’s fire extinguisher, put out the fire in 2 puffs, and returned next door with gratitude.

My family and I spent the rest of the evening buying Lora new baby bottles and debating weather or not the plastic-smoke-filled house was safe to sleep in. After an evening of ventilation, we decided it was safe to stay, and we all woke up again the next morning.
