Panting, Zidane walked up the path of the big house. He had forgotten his swimming trunks. Forgetting the escape plans for Garnet was one thing, but swimming trunks to a pool party he'd known about for almost a week? He sighed. He felt bad for leaving Garnet without saying anything, too. Hopefully she was already inside and not lost or something. If an angry girl was the worst thing that happened to him tonight, he'd be okay.

With another sigh, he knocked on the door.

Garnet shifted her weight to one foot, glancing at the door. Someone was knocking again and Tidus, she noted, seemed busy entertaining the others. She glanced at her watch, biting the inside of her cheek, then walked over to the door to open it. Not because she was being courteous or anything. More like she was already feeling out of the place and she was just trying to find an excuse to leave.

She opened the door and a dark eyebrow rose in disdain. "You're back," she remarked flatly to her long-lost friend.

Walking up to the door of Tidus's house for his party, Nanaki glanced as Zidane stood at the door, greeted by Garnet. He quickened his pace and waved to the both of them, the tips of his mohawk bouncing as he approached the two of them, "Hey guys!"

Being human, he noticed the waving motion of his hand, it intrigued him, and made him question that maybe being in human form wasn't so bad afterall.

Snapping out of his childish curiosity, he scratched the back of his head and wore a quirky grin across his face.

"I missed you too, Dagger." Zidane said with a grin. He held up his trunks. "I forgot them at home."

Before he could apologize for leaving her, a voice came from behind. He turned to see a boy with a mohawk coming towards them, grinning. Zidane had seen him in a hall sometimes but wasn't quite sure what his name was yet. Regardless, he grinned back at the other boy. "Hey!"

Nanaki blinked for a second. He had only known these names by what the teacher called them in class. They must be thinking that he's some kind of weird stalker with an outrageously huge mohawk.

Slightly embarresed, he looked down for a second and then introduced himself, "Uhh...sorry about that. I'm Nanaki. Known also as Red XIII. Call me whichever. Sorry if I startled you for a minute..." He mummbled, biting his lip slightly. "I've seen you around in school and I figured you knew who I was...erf." He was very embarresed at this point and decided to suck it up for now.

Noticing his unease, Zidane gave him a friendly look. "Nanaki? I'm Zidane. Nice to meet you!" He gestured towards the mohawk. "I love the hair, by the way."

He smiled at Zidane's warm welcome and his uneasiness began to fade away, "It's nice to meet you too, Zidane. Oh, really? Thanks! I'm glad it just stays up naturally. I couldn't stand it if I had to put gel in it to keep it up everyday!" He chuckled a bit and then turned to Garnet, "And you're...Garnet, right? It's nice to meet you too." He smiled warmly at both of them.

Noticing the flat expression on Garnet's face at Zidane for the first time, Nanaki paused, "Uhhh...sorry if I interrupted anything... I'll see you guys later." He smiled akwardly and moved past them, into the house.

He watched as Nanaki went into the house, then turned back to Garnet. He wanted to talk with her but wasn't quite sure if she'd listen to him; Zidane had done a lot of weird stuff to Garnet that he felt he should apologize for, and it seemed appropriate to him to start off the new school year forgiven for his ways. Not that he'd give up those ways, of course.

"Can we go out back or something?" Zidane asked. "I wanna talk to you, just for a few minutes."

Garnet smiled slightly at Nanaki before clenching her hands into fists and forcing a nice, warm smile. Or so she thought that it was a 'nice, warm smile'.

"Yeah, let's talk outside," she told him in a strange cheery voice, before looking over her shoulder and waving at Tidus. "I'm sorry, but I'm just stepping out, all right?"

By the way she sounded Zidane knew he was in trouble with her. He didn't know how bad, but just in case, he looked for the best hiding spot and escape route. Running down the street might work if he's fast enough, and there was a tree not too far from where they were standing that he hoped he could climb.

He looked at Garnet. "I'm really, really sorry about running off.."

Garnet scowled at him. "You really don't need to look for a place to run to, you know," she said, closing the door quietly behind her. "For one thing, it's not like I'm going to maim you or anything for ditching me halfway here."

She bit the inside of her cheek again thoughtfully, choosing her words carefully. As much as she wanted to be harsh and cold, she didn't exactly want to ruin other people's evenings just because of her selfishness. "Just... Will you just be considerate and tell me if you're going with someone else? That way, I could find someone else as well to go with."

"I wanted to go with you, Dagger," he said as he looked at his feet. "I like.." Zidane stopped, thought, and tried again with something different. "You know me best, and I don't know about you, but I have fun when we're together."

He held his swimming trunks up again. It was a little embarrassing for him, repeatedly holding up the reason he disappeared. "I ran back to get them, not to come with someone else. I swear."

Garnet swallowed her laughter, clearing her throat, keeping her face calm and expressionless. She was great with hiding her emotions, having to practice lying in front of her mother. "You know it's a pool party and yet you..."

She closed her eyes, feeling quite exasperated and annoyed. "Thank God I'm not going swimming tonight."

Zidane sighed. "Yeah, I forgot them, I'm not doing so well today."

Stupid. The only thing he was doing well today was being stupid. But he couldn't, wouldn't, let it continue, starting now.

"Not gonna swim, huh?" he said, beginning to make his way back to the house. "It's a shame. You would've looked real cute in a bikini." He didn't turn around or look at her, just kept walking to the door.

"Yeah, real cute, Zidane," she replied wryly, looking at him over her shoulder, a cheery smile on her lips. "But I'm afraid I don't want to be that person who would kill you tonight. I'll leave you in the caring hands of Tifa."
