So I went and watched Troy last night. Very epic-like, very grand.
Brad Pitt and Eric Bana were very, very good as Achilles and Hector. I knew they were doomed from the start. Two great, noble warriors, with nothing but the utmost respect for each other. Bound by their code of honor. They didn't really want the war but they had to fight anyway. What was it the trailer said? For love, honor, passion.
Paris and Helen deserve to be bitch-slapped. They really do. Paris especially. But I guess you can't expect everyone to live up to your own standards. Do that, and you get disappointed. But just because others are weak, doesn't mean you have to lower yourself. Lol, guess I've stopped talking about the movie.
The movie probably won't win any best picture awards. Maybe acting awards. Hector and Achilles die, and then those weaklings who sent them to their death pay the price. Not exactly uplifting stuff.
And naturally, being the Dramione fan that I am, I found some D/Hr context in the movie. Achilles, the Greek warrior who bows to no one (and a hot blonde, I might add) falls in love with Briseis, the Trojan priestess of Apollo, cousin to Prince Hector and Paris. She is captured from the temple and give to Achilles. She does not fall all over him even when he strips off his armor and bathes in the tent. Scathing comments, and all that. But the Greek king takes her from the tent to give to the soldiers, and Achilles tries to save her. She stops him and says that no man will die for her that day. Achilles puts down his sword, but he is obviously fascinated by her.
Later, the Greek king gives her to his soldiers. Achilles kills a couple, then carries her weeping into his tent. She slaps his hand when he tries to clean her wounds. He gives up and throws the cloth at her. They talk. She says to him, "I thought you were a dumb brute. I could have handled a dumb brute." She tries to kill him that night, but can't. Er, and he sleeps in the nude so that might have had something to do with it. Hee.
After he kills her cousin Hector, the King of Troy comes to collect Hector's body. Briseis goes home with her uncle. Achilles lets her go. . When the Greeks enter Troy, Achilles runs through the city, searching for Briseis. *cries, sobs* Anyhoo. Very Dramione.
