I imagine it never gets dry enough for lightning. No fast moving air masses where a warm from hits a cold one. There've been tornadoes come very near Denver earlier in June. I even missed the way thunder sounded different down in central Texas. Sounded like a muffled shotgun. Up here it crackles and then decends like a landslide full of boulders.
