Eh I need to vent...don't mind me.Why do people who you thought were so cool fall into the "so dumb, I need to be popular and just have fun" catagory? Some of my friends smoke weed and pot now and do other random drugs, and lots get drunk every weekend, some even on weekdays. Even more go around having sex (or oral sex...etc) with random people who ( Read more... )

I really doubt that the majority of people will OD, die while intoxicated, etc. etc. To be honest, the majority of people who expose themselves to and experience illicit items during their youth are more likely to sober up and fly straight than those who are exposed to negative behaviours in later years ( ... )

as they said its your choice to do what you please but may i also mention that these people are probably still underage to drink and besides it tastes pretty gross from what ive had of it. also no matter how many safe sex compaigns are made and however many condom commercials there are those things may never change...also there are more ways to get an std or herpies or somthing like that than sex and that can be from getting a virus or even sharing a drink wiht someone who has had oral sex...it is your chocie to do what you please but if someone close to you does weed or any other thing it is different because that person is close to you and you know all about them...so it would be hard if they started doing things like that and didnt tell you about them...so anyway...i guess you did your research pretty well but remember even those statistics you have may not even be purley accurate...so im gonna just leave it at that.

it sucks to have a disease identityofloser September 11 2004, 00:44:20 UTC
my sister got "herpes simplex 1" when she was young from a virus (possibly the drinking fountain at school). now she is a carrier and can give it to anyone just by simply sharing a sip of a drink, loaning out a chapstick, using the same fork...etc. not too good for relationships. diseases suck.

You may be speaking of BET in terms of the black community, but nothing's touched more of the middle class (i.e. white suburbia) than MTV and VH1; while it may not be prominent, VH1 has sponsered various organizations it an attempt to make today's youth a more vocal society.

I never said Diddy was running for safe sex campaigns, I was simply citing that MTV has sponsered and supported various organizations for the betterment of society and P.Diddy's marathon run was one of the ones it supported. Also, if you didn't hear, all of Diddy's proceeds went to the charity - if his albums sales went up, that's a different story; but everything he made from the marathon running went straight to charity.

"To be honest, the majority of people who expose themselves to and experience illicit items during their youth are more likely to sober up and fly straight than those who are exposed to negative behaviours in later years."

maybe so...
but this depends on if they don't suffer reprocussions from thier decisions as teenagers. what if they become addicted to the drugs, or an alcoholic? What happens if they do get aids, or cancer? when do they get that chance to "sober up" as you say.

I don't know about you, but if I contracted HIV and/or cancer I'd sober up and fly right pretty damn quick and be a speaker of awareness for the rest of society (especially the youth) not so much to advocate them against it, but allow them to make informed decisions. Drugs, alcohol, there's a reason why we have police forces and peacekeepers...and if all is just and right as many are arguing for...then they should be doing their jobs to keep it in check. It's easy, the sobering up for drugs and alcohol is a trip to Pelican Bay, nice and simple.

Granted, it's not quite the solution we'd all imagine in a Utopia; but take a look at how quickly we sobered up about the Nazis after we examined the Holocaust retroactively...
