I was looking over my live journal and decided there was one post back in April that was sort of brilliant. I would like to bring it to light again because I still think it holds true. Read and process, bitches!
So last night I’m on the phone with some guy-far too long for all the work I had to do-wanting to “know me.” Bwhahahaha! I could be all Brett Easton Ellis and announce the most obvious of truths “no one will ever know anyone,” but in order not to be contentious I attempt to acquiesce. He wants to know my insecurity. Well that seems quite obvious to me. I don’t think anyone should ever have to ask another person what they’re insecurities are. All you really have to do is take that aspect of a person’s life that seems most extreme, what they try to present as something they most excel at, and you have their insecurity. It’s that easy. People overcompensate for those things that they feel they most lack . So if you see someone extremely obsessed with their looks, who is constantly trying to put forth the best aesthetic image, you could probably conclude that deep down they feel extremely unattractive-even if they aren’t today. This person was probably fat in high school or a ridiculed geek and now, now that they’ve shed that image, they must completely shed that image. If a person seems extremely social, walks into a room and immediately seeks the attention of everyone around him or her, basks in the glow of people’s undying adoration for them, this is clearly a person that fears being socially ostracized. Perhaps mommy and daddy didn’t not provide him or her with enough love in his or her life or maybe he or she has suffered a great deal of abandonment in life, whatever the cause this is clearly overcompensation on some level, thus the person’s greatest fear. Now I admit that people are inherently nuanced and that more than one insecurity might exist, but the tell tale signs, the key or answer to this anomaly is simple, if a person seems to excel at something, to always put this aspect of themselves out for public consumption, then by god this is the latent trepidation imbedded deep in their all to fallible soul. Happy people watching!
