I've been watching Doctor Who. Okay, so been watching might be a bit of an overstatement, but I've watched three episodes over the last couple of days. It's definitely enjoyable, although I think it's a bit over the top at times. I feel like I had completely forgotten that not all TV shows are American, so Doctor Who is a bit refreshing in that ( Read more... )

Which season of Doctor Who are you watching? I prefer the third season (of the new Who), and the last three episodes were mind-blowing. I definitely know what you mean though. But, like you, I find the non-American shows fun as they're different. Plus I absolutely adore David Tennant and John Barrowman ...

Facebook has a Scandinavian design? Really?

I was watching season 3, but I've watched all of it now. And I've seen two episodes of season 2, I think. Not sure if I'm going to watch the rest of it, so far I like the third season better. And I can't stand those Dalek things (their voices are killing me. Could they be any more monotonous?), so I'll probably skip those episodes anyway.

I suppose it does, although I'm not really sure what the criteria for being a Scandinavian design really are. I think they just labeled it Scandinavian because it was all clean and simple, or something.

I couldn't get myself to watch all the episodes in s1 and s2 either actually. I just adore s3, particularly the ones with Jack (since I am a total Jack Harkness fangirl).

I have to say I have never heard such a thing. And Facebook is American. Is simple and clean really related to Scandinavian? I am just curius because I haven't heard that before.

Btw, who do you like better, Martha or Rose?

Quote from Wikipedia:
"Scandinavian Design emerged in the 1950s in the three Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Norway and Sweden) as well as Finland as a design movement characterised by simple, uncomplicated designs, minimalism, stylisation, functionality, and low cost mass production."

I guess people do relate it to clean and simple, then. Although I think the things the things the Wikipedia article mentioned are more characteristic of IKEA than Scandinavian design in general.

I loved the scenes with The Doctor, Martha and Jack in the last few episodes. But I think the whole Jack storyline made a lot more sense to everyone who knows the backstory than it did to me. Well, I haven't seen that many episodes with Rose in them, but from what I've seen so far, I like Martha better. She seems to be much tougher and more grown-up.

Oh okay. The description reminds me of that Finnish design ... uh, can't remember what it's called, but the flowers. So you are probably right.

Ooh you should watch the last 5 episodes of s1, where we first meet Jack. When he returns in Utopia the relationship between Jack and the Doctor is very strained because the Doctor left Jack behind at the End of the Days (so sad, by the way). I suppose you also should see Torchwood to fully understand his character (you know, to the extant you can, we know very little about him). Then you'll see how much he loves the Doctor.

That is exactly how I feel about Martha.
