I've avoided posting my thoughts on the election, but maybe I'll say a few words...
Unless the democratic party does some serious revamping, then this country is fucked and will become nothing more than a Christian version of the Taliban. I see it like this: back in the 1950’s up until the 1990’s you had the Southern Democrats. If you were Southern and middle or lower class you had enough sense to not vote for the Republican party. My dad and my friend both remember their grandfathers saying, “Boy, don’t ever vote Republican unless you want to starve to death.” In the 90's, the Republicans distorted a few issues such as guns and placed a strong emphasis on things such as abortion to get the hunters/farmers and devout Christians of the south on their side. Those people are so afraid of losing their guns and so strong in their "Christian values" that they overlook the economic side of Republicans. The democratic party needs to stand up and come up with some fresh ideas or this country will remain a republican country.
I don't really think Kerry was THAT much better and truthfully it's sad that he was the best thing democrats could come up with. His northeastern "yankee arrogance" is not something people of the south and midwest will ever warm up to. There should have been a candidate that could have better related to Americans.
I'd like to congratulate the over 59,400,000 Americans that stood up and spit in the face of gays and lesbians (Your God must be very proud of you!) and told Bush that everything he has done the past four years was A-OK.
I suppose there is some "silver lining" to this all...Kerry might possibly be the most liberal candidate to ever run for president and he received over 55,900,000 votes. That's more than Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton, or Gore ever received. There is some hope, but not for another 4 years!
