Of power outages

Dec 02, 2006 17:42

So yeaaah the power went out last night, about five minutes after I updated my LJ. I saw it coming, and was JUST about to start homework when everything went black.

Sooo I went and hung out upstairs with Lito, Britta, Angelo and the baby. By 9:00, I was bored stiff and sent out a few text messages to people, and now I have no money left on my phone (not that there was much before that).

By 9:30, I got bored enough to go to bed. I mean...honestly, it was cold, dark, and there was nothing to do. I fell asleep pretty quickly...

And this is where the fun starts...hahahaha.

I wake up at about 12:45 because Will sent me a text message. Groggy, I answer and then start to go back to sleep, when I realize what all people come to realize when they're trying to sleep and it's cold and dark and there aren't any lights...I had to pee.

Step step step...open door...step...SPLOOSH.

Fuuuuck.

No, I didn't wet myself; the basement flooded. Yes, the basement that I live in. Luckily, my room seems to be on slightly higher ground than the area with the sump pump, so the water wasn't quite at my door at this point. I went upstairs to wake up Lito, and then the adventure really got going. I moved ALL my stuff (including my precious computer) off the ground and unplugged stuff while the landlords tried to decide what to do. Lito called up his father, who brought over 2947353 extension cords, and then he went to go suck up to the neighbor with the generator. Long story short, the extension cords were run through my window to hook up to the sump pump, the water was drained (a few inches of it at the deepest spot), and my room was freezing because the window was open. I spent the night (well "night" starting at 4 a.m.) sleeping on the couch and was woken up with a cat on my face going 'mrow?'. No, I will not feed you, cat.

Arg. There was still no power when I left at about 10:30 this morning...I'm on the South Shore right now, since Dad's play is tonight.

Hopefully power will be back by the time I go back on Sunday, or I may be knocking at someone's door asking for shelter :p
