Make it a Habit

I... definitely forgot to post here yesterday. Ed came home at a fairly early time compared to usual and we played Moon Hunters for a while. I miss spending a bunch of time with him on the couch. We are so busy all the time lately with his work schedule or friends wanting our attention. It's a little depressing. I'm waiting for him to come home now so we can spend some time together. He's going to take me to the airport tomorrow. I'll be radio silent for a couple days. I'm not sure if I'll fulfill my goal of listening to a new album a day but we'll see.

Day 27
Tegan and Sara "The Con"
Favorite Track(s): "Nineteen", "Like O, Like H"

I didn't know where to start with Tegan and Sara. I've always wanted to listen to more and I was torn between newer, poppy stuff or older, more original indie. I guess I settled for the middle. "The Con" was the top Youtube choice when I searched Tegan and Sara so I went with it.

I wasn't too impressed with this one. If I were in high school or college, maybe. It felt like a lot of songs reflected that time of a woman's life. A decent amount of the lyrics did resonate with me but after a while, a lot of the music sounded similar. I might have been in a mood too. Maybe this deserves another look down the road. I won't give up on wanting to listen to the rest of their discography though.

Day 28
Cabaret (1998 recordings, I believe)
Favorite Track(s): "Cabaret", "Mein Herr"

As a (former) Broadway fan, Cabaret has been on my radar for over a decade. It's inspirational. It's iconic. It's a big deal. After listening to it, I see why. I never knew what the story was. Listening to it, you can't pick up on a lot of it either. I should try to find the movie or a stage production somewhere to get the full picture. I read the synopsis and background info after I finished it and was blown away. There is so much packed into this story and the music. People ask all the time how someone can side with the Nazis. The end shows off that indifference. Listening to Sally's haunting vocals at the end was just perfect. We see this indifference happening a lot today. The more things change, the more they stay the same, right?
