[For Caspian- dated Monday]
Sansa is watching Eddara play peacefully when she hears the howl. Eddara looks up from her game of dolls and peeps out of the front door just as Lady answers in a mournful tone. Then the pups join in and Eddara clamps her hands over her ears instead of mimicking the wolves. "Eddara come here," Sansa said, worry flooding her and though Eddara shakes her head and scrunches her eyes closed. Lady stops howling and heads indoors Sansa has gotten to her feet feeling large and awkward just as Lady stops howling and heads inside herding Eddara closer to Sansa.
Eddara clings to her leg and Sansa scoops her up as Lady and the wolf pups settle at their feet. She tries to settle Edddara in what little lap she has left and Eddara squirms clearly perturbed. "I want Dada," she said. Caspian had only gone out to run an errand but Sansa wishes he were here too. She wants to tell Eddara he'll be home soon but some part of her finds the words sticking in her throat, as if she doesn't dare say it in case that makes it not true.
She decides to distract Eddara instead, "do you want a story?" she asked. Eddara shook her head stubbornly and Sansa kissed her hair and held her close and Eddara does sit quiet for a moment, the baby kicks and Eddara eyes the swell of Sansa's stomach.
"Shhh," Eddara tells the baby but she pats at Sansa's belly much more gently than normal before demanding to be down. Sansa follows her outside and Lady is on their heels. There are more howls but Lady is quiet now and Sansa wonders which wolf is howling and what exactly that means. Though really she has an awful inkling she knows what it means - just not who it has happened too.
Despite the howling, despite her suspicion it is blood kin she has lost. She still sits down hard on the porch steps flooded with relief when she sees Caspian's dark head on the path. Selfish and shameful as it is the only members of her family Sansa would keep on the island over him are her children. Eddara runs to meet him but Sansa only waits - he has come along the path that leads from Summerfell and if there is news he is bound to know it. Sansa is not sure she wants to hear it.
