Wartime Paradox

I was thinking today (I know, its rare), and I came across the subject of all my friends that are overseas, and that someday soon I'll probably be there too. They are constantly on my mind, and I hope and pray for their safe and speedy return.

I look at all the protesters that say "We are only in Iraq for the oil!". The sad thing about this is that if we were truly achieving that goal, and our gas prices were going down instead of up, I don't think that 1/4 of those people would still be protesting. People are only going to start an upheaval as long as the policy or action doesn't benefit them.

And to those that say we haven't been helping, I must honestly say get your head out of your ass. We took out a fascist dictator, and no, we didn't kill him, we are putting him on trial, so that justice can come the way it was meant to. We could have just as easily sent a small team to take him out, but we sent the troops over so that another dictator wouldn't rise, and we are now rebuilding a democratic, free Iraq. And YES, it will take time.

And then there are those that don't like Bush. They say he's full of himself, and only worried about his own personal interests. They point out each of his mistakes, but don't look at any of the good he's been doing. How about his medicare reform that will make sure the elderly can get their medication easier and with more control, before the current system collapses financially with its "one size fits all" package? And how about how much everyone looked to him after 9/11, and the patriotism that arose because of that. Most other people put in his shoes at something like that would have pissed themselves. Its funny because all of the people ripping away at Bush's idiosyncrasies should take a look at themselves and realize that he is just another American, and they are no different. Too bad we are always quick to point the finger...

Now we look at the "corrupt" military. I definitely call that soldier in Baghdad who saw a little girl playing with a piece of unexploded ordinance on a street near where he was guarding his station. He pushed her aside and threw himself on it just as it exploded. He left a family desolate in California and a little girl alive in Baghdad. That's real corrupt to me. Just because there are some sick individuals in the military, doesn't mean the whole military is sick and twisted. I'M IN THE MILITARY! Am I sick and twisted? Look closely into your perfect image of suburbia, I promise you'll see worse.

I don't normally go on political rants, but come on people, this is getting to be too much... Its a sad day when I want to punch my best friend in the teeth because of his views on all of this stuff (and those of you that really know me know that I never think of violence, especially amongst friends). My point of all of this is, if you want things to change, go out and do something. Don't lower yourself to the same level as the one you're trying to overcome! Idle talk gets you nowhere. And don't be so quick to judge others and their actions. You want changes in the presidency? Run for office. Or better yet, vote. How dare those that didn't vote criticize the current president, they gave up their right to do that the minute they decided they didn't want to wait in the lines for the poles. If we want change, we all have to work for it, not sit around and moan.

I'm not directing this at anyone in particular. This message goes out to the masses. And I expect and hope to get replies and comments telling me what you think.

Have a nice day ;)
