The Black Sorrows - Sunday, 30th December 2007 - Torquay Hotel, Torquay

Dec 30, 2007 19:00

On Dec 30th, I saw The Black Sorrows at the Torquay Hotel with Carmen. Twas a twilight show, and they played two sets: the first being more recent material, including a rather funky song called Lean On Me, plus Hold On to Me and concluding with The Chosen Ones which also had a lengthy sax solo at the end. Awesomely smooth.

The second set included lengthier version of better known songs, like Shape I'm In, Daughters of Glory, Harley and Rose, as well as an rather long cover of Brown-Eyed Girl in which Joey Vincent (*cough*Joe Camilleri*cough*) attempted to shoe-horn as many other songs in as possible. Twas a fair bit more rockin' than the previous set too. Lots of lengthy sax solos, harmonica solos and all that kind of stuff. The finale was a rather "high-octane" version of Chained to the Wheel.

Oh yeah, a lot of the older songs were re-arranged too. Kinda interesting to hear a totally different version of The Chosen Ones. And it's actually really neat to see James Black (he of the RocKwiz Orkestra) in a full-band setting, playing a live gig. He's a pretty cool fellow, and quite adept at keys and guitar. The solo he ripped during Chained to the Wheel was awesome, and I dug the funky keys-work he did during Lean On Me.
