What we can tell, though, is that she has plenty of reasons to be here. She might be simply on her way back from a book run - she might also be waiting for Dean.
Either way, she will be sitting nearby, trying to decide which of the two novels she hand-picked she should read.
Something about the other woman, though, demands her attention - apparent emotional shock, but also something else, something...
... she hasn't felt this since Saba and the trip through Jebe-Barkal.

She's had little chance to read about pregnancy, before she came to the mansion, but even Michelle knows the quickening is late.
"I'm feeling a bit strange. That's all."
