(It's funny, this did totally take on a life of its own. I hope it's what she was looking for with the prompt she gave me, but I offered to write something else if it's not. In any case, when I finished writing it, I did think to myself "Well, Hmpf will probably like it! :D" XD)

Oh wow. Suckerpunch to the heart. This is... bleaker than I had been anticipating, but brilliant with it, with lots of wonderful phrases. Gene's anger makes perfect sense. Thank you!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Or maybe "enjoyed" isn't the right word? XD I hadn't originally intended it to be this bleak, quite honestly. I was dreaming up a scenario where they're in the car and talking and then I had them at a stakeout, and then I had to figure out *what* they were staking out...and then this idea crept in and sort of took over my brain and fingers until it had finished. And then I worried a lot, because I was definitely thinking this was NOT what you'd been looking for. XD;;;

I can still write something fluffier if you'd like? But I was pretty pleased with this once I finished it. :)
