The same thing occurred to me (though of course, one would then be obliged to write it - and I *apparently* don't do nice. Or fluff either...), poor Sammy. Bet he's going to have a stinker of a hangover in the morning!

Not that I've ever bought into the whole "1973 for ever" bit, but I can see how Sam might. It's different when you're in a situation yourself, after all.
And I love the way Gene takes it for granted it's his job to look after poor drunk Sammy - I always think that's so sweet. You've put across beautifully the idea of Gene watching every tiny move of Sam's but denying his interest even to himself.

Great fic and very sweet, and I could see how Sam would work himself up into a lather over the idea of re-living 1973 over and over because nothing else makes sense, so why not? I like the little unspoken tension there of 'is Sam thinking of suicide? or what???' because it adds a bit of weight to Gene's thought process.
