Nice to see Merrick showing his nicer side; much as I loved having him there as an target for venting and blaming, and much as I hate what he did to Sam earlier, he really was just a nice guy following the standard procedure for his profession, even if we consider that procedure archaic and immoral now ( ... )

That's what I was trying to convey of Merrick from the beginning but it was hard to try and sympathize with his actions especially when I didn't even agree with them.

I'm going to try and keep Ray in a somewhat difficult position but I do want to show him beginning to accept everything that's happened.

Ah Sam. We've already discussed our overzealous Sam-beating but I think I'm having more fun with Gene's emotional angst over the whole situation.

I actually work at "Merry Bastard's Tenterhooks and Widgets" so they give me a 50% discount.

(And I actually started my pub job today and had a very LoM moment which I'll have to post about in my journal...)

Ooh, 4-year old Sam brakes and warms my heart equally.

The team doesn't know this fact yet, right? So I wonder how Gene is going to tell Annie about it. Or will he take his missus?

I really like writing four year old Sam. I wish I could do it forever.

And no, the team doesn't know...yet.

I think I hope Gene is going to take his Missus for a visit!

It hurts reading this, but it hurts so good! You're turning me into an emotional masochist, Lauren! And I want the next chapter were someone else visits him so bad it hurts even more! And I can't even decide whether I want it to be Ray, Chris, Annie or the Missus! Hell, at this point, I wouldn't even mind if it was Litton. I just want to see the others handle seeing Sam like this, and I want them to do it one at a time. And I adore Gene hugging Sam because he got upset! Also, was the "the yellow one broke" an intentional nod at the "yellow crayon"-speech from Buffy, or is it just me seeing Joss Whedon everywhere?

I was thinking the exact same thing! Although, I figured it was just the Buffy DVD marathon I've been having all week doing weird things to my thought processes.

Plus there's the whole, "No-one in the Whedonverse is allowed to be happy." thing...=P

Jayne was happy. But then, he had a pretty cunning hat!

Muahaha! Another of my evil plans is revealed. There's nothing wrong with emotional masochism. Honest.

Sam gets a new visitor in the next chapter, which is posted, which took me forever and delayed my consumption of food. But hey, writing's more important than eating anyway.

I didn't even think of the yellow crayon speech! It could've come out subconsciously but I just thought little Sam might like the color yellow. But I can say in future comments that it was a hidden Joss Whedon reference, if you like.

I commented earlier but the LJ acted up. Now I can't remember the witty things I said. Anyway, fabulous job throughout but then, that's just you. I'll soon run out out adjectives to describe this story/novel-in-the-making. :)

The ending was killer, I do remmember saying something like that. Oh and I gave crying/hyperventilating Sam hiccups in my head. It was needed. :)

Oh that happens to me all the time with lj. I've taken to copying all my comments before I post them, just in case.

Thank you! And hiccups are perfect! Gah, I should have included that. Maybe in the second draft.
