Eventually, though, Sam had to do his tour and he finally found himself in front of a room full of bored and fidgeting children.

"Good morning, my name is Chief Inspector Sam Tyler of the Manchester City Police, and I'm here today to give you a talk on safety, that you probably know of as Stranger Danger. So..."

A hand flew up. "Sir!"

"If you could just wait, I'll take questions..."

"Sir, I just want to ask you something, can I ask you something please?"

Sam sighed at the whining tone of the boy's voice. "Fine, sure, ask."

The boy stood and grinned. "Sir, are you the Master?"

The room erupted into giggles, and Sam glared.

"What?"

"You know, the Master. Are you are nine-hundred-and-something year old Time Lord?"

"Sit down."

"But, are you the Master? You look just like him."

"I have no idea what you're..."

"Sir, are you the Master, you know, after universal domination and destruction, did you escape from the Doctor and yer hidin' out in Manchester 'cause who'd look for you in Manchester, like!?"

He sighed again, reached into his coat pocket, took out the laser screwdriver and zapped the boy into component atoms. He smiled. "Now, can we get back to talking about Stranger Danger, and the risks of interrupting an adult when they're talking..."

Sam woke with a jerk, his heart thudding. He looked about blearily, and there was the test pattern girl, standing in the corner, hugging her clown, with a terrified look on her face....
