Word Count: wasn't intentional, but it came out as a perfect drabble at 100 words
Just for a little while
The click of a lighter, flame in the darkness, then the flaring glow of companionable post-coital cigarettes.
Exhalation becomes a saddened sigh and they both know why, snuggle a little closer to try to make it go away, pretend it isn’t there.
Nobody else must ever find out. They both know all too well what sort of horror and hatred their relationship can engender.
So they snuggle closer together in the dark, safe in each other’s arms. If just for a little while.
‘Love you,’ he whispers, his voice as Mancunian as they get.
‘Love you too, Nelson’ Phyllis replies.
