Funny, now I've read it three times, I'm getting used to it, kind of like Gene is. I'm still not happy though, my slash goggles are definitely rose-tinted when it comes to these two, and you've shown us a rather different relationship here.

Sorry, rambling a bit. It's very believable and intriguing and how about a sequel with Annie and Ray and I can't believe I just said that. Well done!

Yessss.. well, I love to think that Sam and Gene are 100%, completely, totally in love with each other but I didn't want to have Sam "cheating" on Gene as such. So bascially made Sam into a bit of a tart!

Oh I just loved every seedy second of this! It gets right to the heart of how I see Sam - he (a) is a selfish little bastard (Sorry, I've been told off before for calling Sam selfish, make that self-absorbed!;)) (b) does want everything his own way, and (c) does use his uncertainty about what's real as an excuse far too often.

I can even handle Sam/Ray (one of my personal squicks, usually) when it's rough, hard and founded on mutual dislike. Rough sex - definite personal kink (he told Sam to beg for it - YAY!)

Poor Gene. Poor Gene. But he stayed philosophical rather than getting mushy, and was therefore true to character.
