Damn! Just when you think things are near straight, you go and throw a curve. The descriptive lines of Chris' POV are great, esp:

Today’s forecast: overcast with a 50% chance of rain with DCI Hunt’s mood ranging from a low of moderately annoyed to a high of extraordinarily pissed off.

He spoke coldly, mechanically, as if he’d memorized the words from a policing textbook he’d confused with a Bible.

And what? Ray doesn't want the promotion? He's not gloating over getting the better of Sam? My, he has matured.

Oh! T'is getting really exciting now! I also like how you handled Chris' PoV; all the little details he notices (Well, he is a detective after all) and of course the great line about the weather made me smile.

Ooh, is the team gonna go against the Guv's orders so as to try and keep DI Tyler in his job? Will Gene find out? Is Ray much less of a prick than I originally took him for? ;) You've given us some answers, but once again they've raised lots more questions!

I was right! Litton was just protecting his team, and Gene is seeing the similarities, and like Litton, he knows he's protected his DI for too long, and has to do something about it! Great chapter, cause I'm starting to like Litton, and loved how you reflected him with Gene. You even have both their teams going behind their DCIs backs to protect their DIs!
I can't wait for more, and I really, really hope Sam gets to stay as part of the team! I even hope he'll manage to prove he's from the future, and that's how Gene knows he isn't crazy.

You know, once this is finished you could try to send it in to the BBC and possibly get it published as a special. I dont see why they would say no!

Well my other secret evil plan is to get hired by the BBC, become their most successful writer ever (heavy sarcasm implied) and then they'll have to do whatever I say which will mean at least one LoM special. Of course by then Phil and John will be in their 80s so it'll have to be something like Life on Mars: The Next Generation (if you discount Ashes to Ashes)
