It all felt wrong to Gene. Sam was healing, but he was still wasting away. He wasn’t fighting. He was just letting himself go and Gene couldn’t understand why. Why a man who fought over everything would not fight for himself.
A simply wonderful passage and very Gene. Keep up the great work!

And... if the coach crash happened wouldn't Sam's surname be different because Tyler was taken from the gravestones?

Ah, how I love the craziness of LoM. :D

Was Gene at the coach crash or has Sam's sub-conscious put him there?
Loved the end line - "I’m here now, Sammy. You can wake up any time." Because of the preceeding paragraphs, it's so full of feeling.
I had a theory a few chapters back that Chris' shooting wasn't quite the accident you've made it out to be and nothing you've said so far has contradicted that. Hmmm, you certainly know how to spin a good yarn :)
And come on, Sammy, FIGHT!!

Also, I'm loving the flashbacks that unconscious Sam is having, and the way that it could've been Gene at the coach crash: like Hambel said, is it Gene, or is it Sam's mind? That's one of the best things about LoM fanfic, you never know what's real and what's a concoction of Sam's poor brain, and I love it when ficcers explore all those angles!
Just wonderful!

Poor Sam's brain. It should really be saved and studied for the benefit of science. Maybe he could get a new mental disorder named after him.
