Crimes of Mancunia was first broadcast in 2011, it re-aired yesterday and is
available to listen again (to UK residents, presumably) for 6 more days.
The official summary:
Criminals' loved ones are being kidnapped around Manchester. When the kidnapper starts asking for very specific amounts of ransom money, word soon spreads that he is an ex-cop with a dangerous grudge against the criminal community. DCI Lise Lazard (Sinead Keenan) and DI Mikey Finn (Jason Done) take up the case before time runs out for the kidnapper's victims. A noir drama in verse by Michael Symmons Roberts.
Why this may be relevant to your interests:
- Bent cops (planting evidence), workplace affairs, dark and edgy (modern, not period) Manchester setting (mentions Northern Quarter and Deansgate specifically).
- Uses Sam's "God is in the detail" and turns it on its head.
- Gene Hunt's name crops up, as does Clint Eastwood's.
Go listen! :) It's only 45 mins long. (Warning for some throat-slitting gore, but it is radio, you can't see anything.)
