Sam's face gave me some trouble (thus implying that there's a time when it doesn't give me trouble) in trying to peg the expression down, but DAMN MAN, THE RESULT WAS PRETTY DERN GOOD, EVEN FOR ME. Mixed emotions are SO TOTALLY worth it when done right. <333

Love these! Love every appearance of kid!Gene, and I think you captured perfectly the way he'd be an unstoppable force of nature, but also so much a kid, and the way Sam would be parental and also playful.

Unngghhhhh I love each of these 3 to bits and pieces. <3333333 The first one is cute on so many different levels and so in character and hhhnnnnnggggg <333333333333 GENE WHY ARE YOU SO CUTE?!?!???
The second one is so adorable as welllllllllllll, with Sam being so loose and carefree enough to play this little game with Gene and giving him another happy memory and Gene just laughing and rolling on the floor and UGUUUUU <333333333333333333
And then, of course, the last one. Y'know, imagining that at the time, Gene still cried freely, it's just so... heart-breaking, but in a very good way. <3333 And Saaammmmmmmmm so sad and yet determined and just giving lil' Gene a big hug and fhsdfhjksda. And yes, he DID turn out super well there~ But guh, Gene's face just slays me. ;A;
I HONESTLY HAVE NO CLUE. I WISH I KNEW THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION, REALLY.
I think it's because that often times, we don't ever really "grow up"... it just kinda gets buried under all the stress and mayhem and expectations of adult life.
This can show for Gene sometimes (thinking of how energetic he gets during football matches). So in a sense, seeing him as a kid just means he can be his same ol' self, but with possibly more hope for the future.
It kinda paints him in a different picture, in that it shoes (as mentioned in the series) he used to be heroic, wanting to "wear the white hat", like Sam does.
It also shows a more vulnerable side that Gene probably buried long ago do to the harshness of his life.
