Fic - LoM: Recovery (6/6)

Feb 20, 2012 17:50

Well here we are with the final instalment. I should probably say something about the Rating: I may have over-egged the pudding a little by using the 'Explicit' tag on my site, but the language is a bit ripe so I thought I should err on the side of caution. I've amended it to Adult Concepts here, which I hope is okay.  I also hope that Bratflorida won't mind me snagging her lovely Bauble image for the final illustration - it's meant to be the photo alluded to in the final scene so I really hope you don't mind, Brat!

Anyway, I hope you've all enjoyed the story, and again I'm sorry it took so long to post it. I''ve had it written since before Xmas but had lots of stuff going on and what can I say... I forgot. M'sorry.... just hope the wait was worth it!

Title:                  Recovery (6/6)

Author:               Edzel2

Genre:                LoM post S2, E8

Rating:               NC-17 Brown Cortina (explicit)

Word Count:       10,406 overall (this part 2,258)

Summary:          Sam is still recovering from brain damage caused by injuries sustained when a Blackpool pier collapsed in Dakfinv’s fic ‘Gray Matter’.     He is growing increasingly frustrated by his inability to remember anything and insists on returning to work against the advice of his Doctors - even Gene is dubious. But when Sam tells him that he needs to return to work or he will go insane, Gene relents. It’s a decision he will come to regret when Sam disappears whilst working on a case...

Author’s Note:     Written as homage (and maybe a sequel, if Dakfinv will permit) to Dakfinv’s wonderful fic, ‘Gray Matter’, which can be found here:   http://lifein1973.livejournal.com/1235989.html#cutid1

Previously... ‘Benson is trained to sniff out people as well as explosive material,’ Sergeant Travers tells them. ‘If your officer is in there, Benson will find him.’

‘Then what are we bloody waiting for?’ Gene demands. ‘Come on.’ He sets off with a long stride, not waiting for anyone else.

‘DCI Hunt - you need to let us go in first, Sir.’

‘No way.’

‘Then you’ll risk fouling Benson’s trail, Mister Hunt,’ Travers frowns. ‘We’ve done this many times before. Please let us do our job.’

Gene scowls, but he knows they’re talking sense, even if the cold fear that has been clawing at his stomach since Annie starting talking about Sam and hypothermia doesn’t want him to accept it.

‘All right. But I’m right behind you - so your mutt had better be good at his job.’

‘There’s none better, Mister Hunt.’
